The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think Halletsville is such a pretty area. I've looked at several properties around there.

And probably come back 281. (I have to go check something in Brownwood). Sometimes I go 281 and sometimes thru Brady, Mason, Fredricksberg to 10. Both are nice drives.

Good morning:)

Well our 2006 Green Corn festival was officially kicked off last night. I think the threat of storms kept a lot of people home, but they passed by downtown Bixby with just a sprinkle or two.

I wish I had had my camera. There was a lady there leading a good size poodle around that was PINK, with blue ears, and green tufts around the bottom of it's legs...so pitiful:). I sure the poor hound was embarassed:)

It did cool off nicely tho, so it was a pleasant evening sitting on the porch of our building listening to the gospel music from across the street at the park, and eating corn, Indian Tacos, and ice cream.

Oh the poor pooch... as if it isn't humiliating enough just being a poodle. :~D

We had toolie fog this morning... just a thin layer right across the ground... saw ponies in the mist :~)

Good Morning.

Sounds like a fun time Becky. I love those small town festivals. Our little community street fair started last night. Severe thunderstorm warnings put a big damper on that. Over 2 inches of rain, and it is still raining this morning.

I'm up earlier than I wanted to be... heard some people making a ruckus over at the store, looked like they'd been up all night partying and the joy had worn off... I don't know if they were stranded there or what, but they were just on a rant.

I've got a rather busy day today, can't finish my mowing...

I have to go to a meeting in another town, and since I have to drive right by it, I'll probably go visit at our beach house on the way home.

Here's another link that you might check out. It's the Alabama Farmer's and Consumer's Bulletin, which is a monthly publication of the Alabama Deptment of Agriculture. It's a small newspaper that just has classified ads for anything related to agriculture like horses and mules, cattle, sheep and goats, swine, rabbits, farm equipment, farms for sale or rent, etc. After you click on the link, click on the June issue. It'll download in a PDF format. Then flip down to the Horses and Mules section. There's a few horses in there this month that might suit your fancy. I bought my blue roan racking mare from a guy who advertized in it...

Oh, sorry you got so much rain.

Mack always says that for Bixby, the Green Corn Festival is on par with the second coming:). Tomorrow there will be a parade, turtle races, frog jumping contest, and in the evening a street dance.

EEWWWWW, meetings:\

It is cooler here today, so I'm going to lunge Harley, then probably go back to town and hang out. I think Kristy is running tonight in the rodeo, so I'll go watch. Busy weekend.

Over 2 inches of rain, and it is still raining this morning.

Send some our way! It is so dry and hot here. Going to be 97 again today. We had thunder and lightening last night but no rain. My husband and I sat on the back porch last night looking at our poor burnt lawn. No mowing for us, nothing is growing. Pray for rain!

Sounds like fun!

It must be the weekend for festivals coz we've got one going on too. Here it's the Keller Festival, in honor of Helen Keller, who was born here. She was struck blind and deaf by scarlet fever as a child and but later learned sign language and lip reading and went on to become a role model for blind and deaf people around the world.

A play was written about her life called 'The Miracle Worker' and it is performed at the Keller Home each night during the week of the festival. There's a parade, a car show, Arts and Crafts and lots of bad-for-you food. There's lots of music going on too, with performances at the park by local talent during the day, topped off by a Tracy Byrd concert on Saturday night.

Lee and I will probably go to the Arts and Crafts show on Saturday morning, then maybe take a stroll through the car show. I'll take the camera and show y'all the town.

With our luck it'll probably come a downpour on us while we're riding on Sunday! There seems to be something about me and you getting together for a ride that seems to cause a thunder storm.

I finally remembered to call Shirley last night and he's going too and will bring one of his horses for Amy or her BF to ride.

You know how I was wondering about whether he would have to work on Saturday so we picked Sunday for the ride? Well, the old bugger has pulled a fast one and retired (again)! So now he can go riding any time he wants to. The only problem now is that his wife has a 'honey do' list for him that is a mile long.

I love that drive, especially over towards Fredricksburg. Someday I want to drive out that way when I am not on my way TO somewhere so I can take my time and explore a bit.

Isn't Texas just grand?

I haven't been through there yet. The company my friend's husband works for is opening a Texas branch. They have purchased property just south of 10 between 10 and Halletsville. I think it is just off 77 somewhere. I am not sure exactly what the company does, but it has something to do with heavy equipment and tractor trailers. They will live on the property and run the business in Texas. Debbie, my friend, plans on buying a "Texas mansion" to put on the property. I told her Palm Harbor is the best.

I am recovering today from unloading and stacking 50 bales of hay all by myself. I did fine except for the 5th layer high. I couldn't throw the hay that high so had to build myself "steps" from other hay bales to get the top layer on. I got a full body workout and really feel it today. I have found muscles I didn't know I had because they are sore now. I started around 3:30 but only worked about 30 minutes due to the heat. Came back in and sat under the ceiling fan for about 30 minutes then got started again. I finished up a little after 6 and had to clean up before dinner. I was a sweat hound. I must have drunk a gallon of water during the unloading and sweat it all out again.

I did get all 50 bales in my storage stall with room for a few more. If they hadn't fit, I would have had to put them in the garage and kicked my truck out into the weather until I used the overflow up.

I was going to take pictures, but the batteries were dead in the digital.

We do have rain in the forecast and a line was headed my way, but looks like it is breaking up before it gets to me. I felt a few sprinkles outside while feeding this morning but nothing to speak of yet. It is like there is this huge rain cloud vacuum sitting over Collin County that sucks up all the rain clouds before they get to us.
