This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Okey-doke.
Chatty guy :~)
Good morning.
6:30 and already 78. We are forecast to be 104 today and 106 tomorrow:(

I forgot to ask my daughter what kind of meds they have Patches on. She received an update email from the lady yesterday. We were giving her a paste med for pain, but I don't know the name. A lot of help, I am.
I'll give you all a report on the place after this is done. I'm really getting anxious to schedule. Have a call into my vet to see if he's talked to Dr Jackson about the case yet.
Poor Patches. I hope she can remain comfortable. It just sucks that there are some things that can't be fixed.
Oh dear... that is way too hot! Stay cool today!
We woke up to drizzle of all things!
They are forecasting 100 degrees here again today. IF we are lucky enough to get some rain it will drop 10 degrees. I am over this heat.
Back peddling a little, I found that picture I was telling you about with the weavepole challenge
Note the tennis ball in the left hand. That is her prize for finishing.
Wow, that looks like that would make them dizzy!
Well, we made a full 3 hours today....and it is hot, and Harley is tired. We did lots of hills, and a little more long trotting then I have been doing the last few days.
He seems fine doing all the trotting, but it still seems he has trouble getting up hills. All but stops when he gets close to the top of a long one....Not sure what to do about it, other then keep doing them...

Yes, I do love my trimmer, when I can get it away from my kids:\

Blade does that to and I have let him do it at a pace he preferes. Racking or a slow gallop is usually his choice.
My dog would look at me like, "You want me to do WHAT? It's gonna take more than one lousy tennis ball . . . maybe a crate full of live mallards!"
Stops because he's winded, or stops because you think his muscles are giving out?
Probably Bute or Banamine... I was merely curious to know how hard or easy it might be to maintain for the long term.
Wild afternoon yesterday. My mare is doing so well that our trainer moved us up to the Big Time -- we are now riding with the older teenage girls who are preparing our trainer's best warmbloods for three day eventing.
Miss Gracie was so inspired by all the snorting and bucking going on around her that she was On Fire. She did a little plunging, a little hopping, tried to run away with me a couple of times. I actually had to do an extremely severe half-halt after the second fence of a four-fence combination (4 strides to 3 to 2 to 1) and she gave a pretty good impression of a bronc after she cleared the last one.
I'm pleased to say that even though I was a little light in my right stirrup (we were headed left), I didn't lose it and never lost my position. Hooray! She's a wild woman at 23!
AT CTR's you have to walk up hills...they consider a faster pace dangerous on an incline. If he could trot, I think it's easier, but I've also heard that really raises their heart rate....
Who knows:). Is all I know is he's got big hindquarters, that have some muscle definition in them, so it shouldn't be that hard.
