The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

...we rode them home, five miles, along the freeway greenway, in full show gear because that's what we had with us to wear!

I'll bet you got some strange looks. It wasn't that slinky Arabian Nights costume with the ruby in your bellybutton was it? I'll bet you'd've gotten plenty of pick-up offers if it was! ;o) You need to re-post that picture so BladeRider can see it. She'd get a kick outta that one.

I think most trailers use standard rims, but I think the fact that this one's so old contributed to the problem. The tires on the driver's side are fine and have plenty of tread. It's just the ones on the passenger side that get worn down because of the crooked axles. My FIL has re-welded them twice and they're still not square. I guess even just a little bit of unevenness can make a big difference. Those tires on that side were only 2yrs old too. It get's a little expensive replacing them that often, but not as expensive as a new trailer. I just should have had them replaced before now. That was my stupid fault.

Heh... No, it wasn't the native costume, merely Saddle-Seat jodpurs and long coat-tails for me, a silver show saddle, sequined shirt and black chaps for my western friend :~)

Our trainer stayed with the truck till a tow truck arrived, not wanting to leave the rest of the gear in the trailer.

After preview... I just can't get over how hideous that costume was... the colors... very 70's :~) And the hat... it looks like a wedding cake.

LOL!!! I just LOVE that picture! And the costume is really quite snazzy. Like you say, the colors were the absolute rage in the 70's. But, Oh, the silly stuff we'll wear when we're young and thin! I shutter to think of some of the gawdawful stuff I wore back then.

That would have been about 1980, so I think the colors were beginning to be dated even then, but it wasn't my costume, it was borrowed, and they're so expensive to make.

As for young and thin... yeah - I'd probably still wear it today if I could still look like that in it :~) Under the cape I'm wearing a bra that's been covered with gold fabric. When we got around to the hand-gallop where the crowd stomps and claps and whips the horses up into a barely controlled frenzy in those Arab costume classes... the cape was flyin' and wasn't covering much :~)

My husband gets impatient at times, esp on his way to Vegas. We were driving, and I wanted to go thru the mountains of Arizona. Well you know how it is. I got my way but was paying for it. About 1/2 way thru we passed a woman in her 50's or 60's with a flat. It was so hot. He just turned around and went back. He put our idiot tire on her car and slowly followed her home for about an hour. Later, coming back, it was dark and we were going in an out of curves in the mountains. We came across a school bus that was broken down. A bunch of high school kids had been somewhere. They were just barely off the road. He got a number and stopped and called for help for them at the bottom. None wanted to leave. He is a good guy and was a really good Samaritan that trip. Of course I still heard about how we could have already been in Nevada or home.

Ever see or hear of the movie "Pay It Forward" It is a great movie about doing good things for people and the theory about how it is like a Domino affect. I would recommend anyone to see it.

"So now all I've gotta do is go to the junk yard and get a 15" IH rim and I should be set."

Don't count on it, IHC has not made a pickup since 1972 I believe. Check with a place that sells trailer parts, hint (red-nek).

I haven't seen it but do you listen to county and western? I can't remember the name of the song or the artist but There is a song I esp like. It is about a guy who stops and helps an old woman with a flat. He tells her not to break the chain. She goes for coffee and sees a young woman pregnant and down on her luck. She leaves a 100 bill. Later, you find out that it was her husband "Joe" that helped the old lady.

No. That's kind of a problem where I'm at. I was thinking about starting with caps and then blanks. What I meant though was that, I considered it such a dangerous situation at the time, that the horse bucking could have happened anyway because that beast had killing on his mind. I don't carry when I ride for that reason. We aren't ready yet. I just have to find a place to practice. This winter I may take them to my dads for the weekend.

CLAY WALKER Song Lyrics

The Chain Of Love

(From the album "LIVE LAUGH LOVE")

He was driving home one evening,
In his beat up Pontiac
When an old lady flagged him down,
Her Mercedes had a flat
He could see that she was frightened,
Standing out there in the snow
'Til he said I'm here to help you ma'am,
By the way my name is Joe

She said I'm from St. Louis,
And I'm only passing through
I must have seen a hundred cars go by,
This is awful nice of you
When he changed the tire,
And closed her trunk
And was about to drive away,
She said how much do I owe you
Here's what he had to say

You don't owe me a thing, I've been there too
Someone once helped me out,
Just the way I'm helping you
If you really want to pay me back,
Here's what you do
Don't let the chain of love end with you

Well a few miles down the road,
The lady saw a small cafe
She went in to grab a bite to eat,
And then be on her way
But she couldn't help but notice,
How the waitress smiled so sweet
And how she must've been eight months along,
And dead on her feet

And though she didn't know her story,
And she probably never will
When the waitress went to get her change,
From a hundred dollar bill
The lady slipped right out the door,
And on a napkin left a note
There were tears in the waitress's eyes,
When she read what she wrote

You don't owe me a thing,
I've been there too
Someone once helped me out,
Just the way I'm helping you
If you really want to pay me back,
Here's what you do
Don't let the chain of love end with you

That night when she got home from work,
The waitress climbed into bed
She was thinkin' about the money,
And what the lady's note had said
As her husband lay there sleeping,
She whispered soft and low
Everything's gonna be alright, I love you, Joe
