This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
AH. That was fast. You too, huh?. Last weekend I think we watched it 5 or 6 times. I have a "library" here. My grandkids don't take care of their stuff the way I would like so I loan them things. They have to bring them back intact for something else. My oldest grandson checked it out last week.
What a good idea! I'll remember that when I have grandkids.
Those are great pictures. What a cute little girl. The Alpaca's are too:). Are alpaca's used for anything besides pets?

Nothing green at all. My pasture is nothing but weeds, and every they are wilting. I don't think the fern is going to make it, despite all the water I'm giving it.

They're sheared for their fleece - very very soft, they're like petting a cloud. Hers was sheared in the spring, and is only about half grown out, they get really long.
And they put little packs on them and use them as pack animals in the Andes I guess :~)
That's what I was thinking, but I thought I might have been thinking of llamas.
Several people around here have them in their pastures with horses. Do they make good companions for horses:)
Becky
Some of the Greeners here and hikers keep them and use them backpacking... and that's actually why Bob got one in the first place, he was afraid his horses would be afraid of them if he crossed one on trail and he rescued one on a spur of the moment at the killer sale to bring it home to socialize with his horses. Well, his llama was unhappy and he called a llama farm and was told they are miserable alone and he'd better get another one to keep it company... and they gave another to him, also a rescue who was not halter trained and was hard to handle... and then when Jessie wanted to be in 4H they thought alpacas might be easier to handle because they're smaller, and they're also unhappy alone so they had to get a couple.... ;~)
ecurbh decided last night we should get one... and we were promptly told we can't have just one, if we wanted one of theirs, we had to take all three :~)
Hello Cindy Dawg and all, the llama pictures are darling. We've had some good rains down here but it is still very hot.
I've been gone from the thread for a while. It has been so hot here in the TX hill country that I have to do outside work in the mornings and then a big computer project in aft's and then feed animals and then listen for an hour to Lord Of the Rings on CD --- I love it!
Here are some pictures from my trail ride last weekend. We rode at one member's ranch outside of Del Rio, then all trailered up to the high hill country, on hiway 55.
My new horse Buck was an absolute gem. Trailered well, got along with other horses, was comfortable and sure-footed.
Well here are the pics. I am slow at this as everybody knows.
ranchhouse at Del Rio where we all unloaded. 2 miles from Rio grande.
One woman found a cow skull and lugged it back.
Bonnie found it and then gave it to Mary. Mary's husband says he never knows what she will come back with.
These were our hosts at the ride next day in the hill country. This is one of the most beautiful canyons I have ever seen.
My shadow in the canyon creek water.
Old barn in the hill country
Buck back in his home corral at last.
We are finally putting our master bath together. We moved into our house at about 90% complete. We are at about 91% now. My husband is putting in electric sockets. He thinks I want them for razors, hair dryer etc. The one over in the corner is for tv/ internet service:')
Beautiful country.
Wow great pics! What a nice trip!
Your horse is beautiful too but I don't think I could name a horse "Buck" :')
I couldn't resist. He is a double grandson of a foundation sire named Pretty Buck. And I also couldn't think of anything else...sun...brain damage...
I like it though :') Is he high spirited? (does he buck?) At least no one will ever call him a "cupcake" My poor Sarah Lee.
Great trail ride pictures... Neat to see different parts of the country. Your new Buck is very very pretty. Glad he's working out so well.
We just got back from the dinner after the organized ride, had good steak dinner for our trail marking effort :~) They were doing an auction as a further fundraiser after and we ducked out without seeing anything we needed. Bob bought a nice English bridle... really nice quality leather... but it was brown and I'm currently in black, and already have one. That was the only thing I was remotely interested in, and he got it for a bargain at $80.
There's a LOT of quarter horses named Buck... Very popular name... it's a noun, not a verb :~)
I was just kidding with SqBarb.
Yall cooling down? Our tropical storm that is supposed to have died is showing signs of not being quiet gone yet.
I hope your storm isn't too bad.
We had 80 today... too hot to sit in the sun, but we can't complain :~)
