This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Jenny's shop looks great! What a neat and original decor!
LOL...looks like Tweek hasn't given up:)
Becky
Thanks:). Jenny and Mack are the ones that came up with the decor, they got it all put together while I was in Wa.:)

The only picture I took that you all might be interested in seeing is Sailboat Bridge. This town is on Grand Lake, and this bridge crosses it as you come into town. This is a man made lake on the Grand River.

No horse shows today. Good thing, it is going to be very hot. We talked about going to one of those drive thru animal parks today. I bet the animals won't be too active.
Good morning! Slept in a little here. ~yawn~
The bridge looks tall enough for sailboats :~) Your camera is working great without that broken lens glass.
Glad the family get together was great and that your Dad didn't put you on restriction :~)
I think ecurbh still has dreams about this elk :~)
EEK!!
Yowza!
We're back from the feed store, went to the 'other' feed store this time for grain and such... they have different brands and different choices, so it was something of a challenge to figure out which kind to go with... we ended up with two of their sweet feed blends and one Purina Senior and we'll mix that together. They have cool birdfeeding stuff, we almost went hog wild with our new bird feeding area, but we restrained ourselves this time. Our blankets were there, back from the cleaners, so the trip was already expensive enough. :~)
Reading feed bag ingredients can be a challenge:), but it's also interesting....I guess:)
Man it's hot here today, we went over the 100 mark, and it's suppose to be over a hundred at least till Thurs. Riding is going to be a challenge...it will have to be done early, early, early....:\
Becky
I meant to add, funny tho, as hot as it is the horses are not sweating...
The week I came home from Wa. they were dripping just standing around. I guess the humidity is not as high now...
So there's that:)

osagebowman saw this posted somewhere and copied it to the HH:
It is so hot in Oklahoma that...
The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
I saw a coyote chasing a rabbit and they were both walking.
The popcorn growing in the field is already popped.
Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.
The potatoes cook underground, and all you have to do to have lunch is to pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
***"IT'S SO DRY IN OKLAHOMA THAT...
The cows are giving evaporated milk.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
A sad Oklahoman once prayed, "I wish it would rain -- not so much for me, cuz I've seen it -- but for my 7-year-old."
A visitor to Oklahoma once asked, "Does it ever rain out here?"
A rancher quickly answered, "Yes, it does. Do you remember that part in the Bible where it rained for 40 days and 40 nights?"
The visitor replied, "Yes, I'm familiar with Noah's flood."
Well," the rancher puffed up, "we got about two and a half inches of that."
***YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN OKLAHOMA WHEN...
You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.
You can say 110 degrees without fainting.
You eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off.
You can make instant sun tea.
You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95, you feel a bit chilly.
You discover that in July, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
You discover that you can get sunburn through your car window.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
It's noon in July, kids are on summer vacation, and not one person is out on the streets.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. Before work.
No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning.
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
ROFLOL, so many of them are so true...
Thanks, made getting up so early not quite so tough:)
Becky
A few shots from the safari adventure. We rode a open tour bus. Nothing like having a elk in your lap, Bruce...lol It was hot, but the animals did come for feed. Today the same, very hot and humid.
Elk staying cool in the big lake.
Alison is not afraid to put feed right on the tongue. That Watsui's horns are amazing.
Big bull elk.
Each Zebra has his own unique pattern.
Watsui huh - he is pretty cool!
And the zebras :~D
At the drive through park we went to, there were bulls there, but they sawed off all the antlers.... For good reason, since they like to stick their heads in cars :~D
