The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Completely different terrain. Well there are always boats, jet skis, and dolphins (just kidding, ok)

Like the kid in the movie The Black Stallion:)

That is one of my favorite scene in any movie, of course I think the music has a lot to do with the appeal of it too:)

I'm going riding on the beach next. Not much there besides sand dunes. Have you ever done that?

My husband and I rented a couple horses while we were in San Fransisco, CA and rode on Half Moon Bay. It was a lot of fun. Challenging to get the rental horses away from the barn but once we got on the beach they forgot and just wanted to go. One day we would like to ride our own on the beach, may try to go to Kissemme FL or South Carolina. I think though that ours may balk at the horse eating waves.

Mine may balk at first too. Once they see the other horses in the water I'm hoping I won't have much of a problem. We are camping out over night though so it's plenty of time for them to get used to and maybe even enjoy. I hope so, anyway. I don't want to get stuck at camp. I was surprised. My husband wants to go too. He said he's borrowing the keys from his bosses condo, just "in case" though.

I've heard they can be a little timid about the big water. The Pacific is really noisy though... always ~some~ surf. This is a nice calm day on the Pacific...

I think the gulf is quieter. I was surprised at how calm and quiet the Atlantic is, unless there's a hurricane coming :~)

I don't think I'd get Bay in the water easily or without becoming a local amusement... the part that would unnerve Bay, I think, is the constantly moving edge of the water, where the waves come in, and retreat.

I have never ridden on the beach, but I have always wanted to.

I tell you is not going and that is Cindy. She goes absolutely nuts. I would not have been able to take a picture of her because she would have been in my arms trying to climb up on my shoulder.

Yep, I know all three! I was born and raised in San Diego, moved just before my 30th birthday to Alabama. I have been to the Gulf numerous times and the Atlantic a few times. Nothing is as pretty as the Pacific coast though, IMHO

Good Morning. I am a little late getting up. There is a preview weekend for a new game, and I was up, way too late playing. The horses are going to be so mad at me.

Someone has to hold the off stirrup for me when I mount too. Even with little Jody, I have a hard time pulling myself up. Just not very strong, in my arms anymore.

Riding along the beach would be a blast. On one trail ride over at the lake, I started to canter along the beach and ended up with mud all over my back. Sand would be much better...lol

The horses look great, Hair.

The 19th. I haven't had a good track record though. Last month I had a memorial I had to go to and this last one was canceled. It will be my luck that a hurricane comes in.

What is or used to be so pretty was the Floida side of the Gulf. The sand is white and the water so clear that you can look down and see your feet.

Where? What beach? What state?

I agree, they white beaches of Pensacola are beautiful, but the cliffs on the Pacific coast are ominous. Big Sur is gorgeous. Not many places to ride but quite a view.

Ah, the southern most tip of Texas! It should be gorgeous! How far of a drive from Houston is that? Do you know?

Oh, what beautiful colors in that sky. I love our sunsets here too, gorgeous colors changing by the minute.

I've been upsetting people over at the farrier forum... not farriers... horse owners. Since it's a training issue not a shoeing issue, I think I'm not overstepping my bounds on the forum by getting involved...

The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center Forums (formerly the Bulletin Boards) - Concerns with last farrier incident (kick fest, anyone?)

The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center Forums (formerly the Bulletin Boards) - Farrier hitting horse with file

Just grist for the mill :~D

The desert has some of the prettiest sunsets... is it the heat, or the dust in the lower air or the clarity of the upper sky? I don't know... I remember when I was in Eastern WA - The lingering atmospheric ash from Mt St Helens seemed to amplify and reflect all the colors.
