The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

A Moot hall is meeting or assembly place, traditionally to decide local issues.

I looked it up.

Moot is a carry-over from the Hobbit Hole thread. It's used in Lord of the Rings as a term for a gathering or a meeting, so we used it to describe the gatherings in the HH. :~)

Good morning!

Well, maybe that could work too!

It's just a name. We could have called it "The Shoes" ~Paul McCartney

Good grief we just saw the weather forecast and there's heat advisories for just about the whole midwest - from Texas up through Missouri today! :~\

~sweltering~

47 here, still a little chilly, but it'll be warm later!

But it was miserable yesterday, my poor horses were sweating from head to toe:(

I feel so bad for them when it's like this, but there just isn't anything you can do about it....Keep their water fresh and cool as possible.

How's Bay today?

I think he's OK, recovering! Bay's backsoreness is gone, I think... I felt bad that he was pretty sore there, but I think it was just the amount of work we did was a lot more than he's used to, and I expected him to be a ~little~ creaky. I was pleased with how his feet held up. No problems there at all.

ecurbh and I were talking about that ride, how you get to see a lot of sights up there we rarely see, like the views. If we did it more often it'd be easier, and maybe Bay can get in that kind of shape, not sure. I don't think Cyn's feet could do that too often and hold up. They were chippin', and they usually don't.

Not much you can do if they don't appreciate the hose. If'n it were Rusty, you could just turn on the hose.

We should have sent you home with some trees :~)

Well, they don't mind the hose, but I wouldn't help for long, so, IMO, it might just make the times they are hot harder to bear. If they could stay wet all day, which they just about do on their own, might help, but I'm not on well water, and can't just leave it on 24/7. Besides soaking wet supposedly makes them hotter if it can't evaporate due to humidity.

The 2 days of showers we had before I left made my yard really grow back well, I'm seriously considering putting my fake hot wires back up around the yard to give them some good green grass before I mow it...Mack hates my fake wires tho:)...I just hate to "waste" all this....
