This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It is a nuisance to be injured... Hopefully an opportunity to ride will pan out when you can do it.
I'm trying to coordinate a trip riding with Tiff and Kat, maybe this weekend, maybe next... She still has Kat barefoot, and says she's been doing well, but she bought some kind of boot she can wear if there's a lot of rocks. I'm interested to see her in action, these trails are only rocky in a few places, but where they are rocky, the rocks can't be avoided. So I'm wondering if we're going to have to fuss with the boots or not.
One more thing about the airport...You probably will want to wear slip-on shoes coz lots of times they'll make you take them off and run them through the x-ray machine and they're just easier to get on and off than lace-up shoes. And don't wear a belt with a metal buckle, or if you do, just take it off and put it in the tray too, along with your keys, if you have them, just don't forget to pick up your keys like I did the last time. Luckily they paged over the intercom and described the key ring and I recognized it and went back for it before my flight left. Duh! Sometimes a bra with underwire in it will even set the detector off and they may want to pat you down. Don't take it personally, just spread 'em and let them do it. One time I flew not too long ago, I got searched at every darned gate. I must've looked like a terrorist or something. ;o)
I've used VetWrap for sprains and broken toes, my neighbor used it for a broken finger. (and it comes in such cool colors)
I've found out that, like wives and pickup trucks, if you don't get what you want, you'll soon be puttin' a For Sale sign on 'em.
Those bloodlines are really good for working horses. A Poco Bueno mare I had got bored real easy on the trail, she thrived on challenges. Hope you find what you're looking for.
My gray has Poco Bueno and Two Eyed Jack and he's turned out to be a real good horse. Learns quick and doesn't get excited about little things like blue tarps flapping in a brisk March breeze or turkey's busting out of the trees beside the trail or ropes or fishing rods or even gunfire.
I wouldn't even be looking another horse except that the hills are getting hard for Tuff. He's pushing 27. And I have people that like to go on rides with me that don't have their own horse.
So, there we are.
The last few times I've been through, sometimes they're having you remove shoes, and sometimes not. Just wear something easy comfortable, without metal in it wherever possible, and don't carry anything in your pockets you don't really need. Double check your carry-on bag that you don't have any blades of any kind... no forgotten knives or guns or ammo from the last time you carried it somewhere :~)
And it doesn't hurt to seem pleasant and unhurried at the security check. Those people deal with a lot of difficult passengers who want to take all their frustrations out on everyone around them and the screeners usually seem pleasantly surprised if you smile at them. :~)
I've never been patted down, or even slowed down much, in security.
Whoo hoo! Deuce is much better. Waiting for further instructions from vet but things looking good!
Aw, just jump on that pony bareback! :)
Good news!
Great news! Hopefully he's on his way to a full recovery now.
LOL:), and you would too, if you saw me get on with a saddle:)
I don't have much spring left in the ole legs:)

When we were coming home from Vegas a few years ago, Mack got pulled out of line and patted down. They said it was random, no specific reason....

Actually I said to heck with it and spent the evening reading horse stuff. I'm back in my "whatever mood" today. Just blowing off steam. I do need to work on some stuff tonight and tomorrow though so I don't have it hanging over my head while I'm gone. Momma keeps changing my plans so as of now I'll drive to Waco after the kids get out of Bible school Friday. I'm going to cut thru the country though. 35 from San Antonio to Austin was a nightmare the last time.
Hey all, just checking in. Was in Providence all day fighting with payroll and had to be in a looooong meeting. But I got a free meal out of the deal and got to look at neat (to me) chemistry equipment. I am totally wiped out.
I bet. When I go to inservices, I'm exhausted afterwards.
Howdy :~) I had a busy work day too, didn't even get outside to mow... tomorrow...
While watching the Weather Channel this morning, the South is really suffering from lack of rain. No wonder it looked so dead while we were driving that way. We had pretty good thunderstorm last night. I finally got those plants in and my hanging baskets made.
Try US 281. It is a beautiful drive. You can cut over to Waco on US 84 north of Lampasas. I always drove 281 when going to dressage shows in Boerne at the Yellow Rose Palace show arena. In the spring, the drive is full of bluebonnets. Biggest towns to pass through are Marble Falls and Lampasas. Lots of green grass, hills, and cows.
Good morning.... I saw a report just now too. Sounds hot and dry in Texas again today... storms for Becky though. Sunny here in WA, and by weekend we'll be complaining of the heat, it's gonna be 85. :~)
All the grass around here is now dead. We are in a Stage 3 watering ban so can only water lawns one day a week before 10 AM or after 6 PM. I put in grass seed in May but only about half of it has come up due to lack of water. I watered daily until the ban started June 1.
The only thing still green is the weeds and a few more weeks without rain and they will be brown too.
