The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Here's you something else to do...tell me which of these pictures of Hope you like the best. I'm fixing to list her on AgDirect. I'm not sure how many pictures I can have. I think the first one is free and any additional ones cost extra.

Trying to get a horse to stand square and not look bored to death is a pain in the butt! I was throwing things, dragging things tied to strings, you name it.

Definately the non-mane side. It shows off her neck better and her neck looks longer on the non-mane side.

The nicely arched picture is nice for her neck, but so is the other, more relaxed number two. Number one looks like she's not standing still, she's reacting to something. If I hadn't seen the others, I'd like her from that picture, but two has a really nice calm quiet expression, and it looks like she'd stand there obediently all day.

I like two the best.

Afterthought: She does look more muscled in the first one than any of the other ones... because I think she's more 'on the muscle'.

It's a draw for me, between 1 and 2. :~)

I liked the non-mane side best too. I kinda liked the first one because of the neck arch, but she's not standing as squarely as in the 2nd one. It's funny that you said that she looks like she's reacting to something in the first picture because she was. I had a wal-mart bag full of garbage tied to a string and had threw it out in front of her and was making it wiggle. It got her to perk up her ears real good and arch her neck, but it also made her lean back a bit too, so I think I'll go with the 2nd one. All 4 legs are nearly perpendicular to the ground and she's on fairly flat ground so her butt doesn't look too high and like you say, she's got a decent expression.

She does look 'bigger' in the first picture doesn't she. It's amazing the difference that posture can make in pictures. Her 'muscle' is mostly fat though. She's definately an easy-keeper. She gets maybe a small coffee cup full of plain oats once a day and that is ALL. The rest of that just comes from the pasture. Her mother is the same way. I sure hope they both aren't on their way to having the same kind of problem that Tennessee is having.

As much of a bugger as he has been (I can't remember the term you used for him, I just remember that it was really funny) he is a cutie.

...I can't remember the term you used for him...

I think it was 'little sawed-off, hairy-ass bugger', but yes, he is really cute. You should hear him bray. It's hysterical! He'll wander off with the cows for a while and then I guess he gets to thinking about the mares and heeeere he comes, trotting up out of the hollow, braying the whole way. And when he gets to the fence, he kinda tapers off to something that sounds like a cross between a grunt and a cough. Really funny! And I think they are almost as bad as roosters to make a racket at dawn. The older jack is in a pasture not far from my house (but it's over a mile away) and I hear him some mornings when I'm out watering the flowers before I get ready to go to work. It's one of the perks of living in the country I guess. ;o)

I don't think we'll have trouble recognizing each other, really, do you?

How about a picture of each others horses on your tee shirts! LOL.

I was riding Bay along a road near Bob's house a long time ago when this donkey got interested in us and came running across the pasture. When he got to the fenceline and brayed it really caught us off guard! I thought Bay was going to jump out of his skin. He had no idea what that thing was. :~D

Speaking of Bay, he just got all clipped and trimmed so he looks nice for company!

Seeing as how the two big horses seem to have come to terms with Mia, the pony has decided it's her turn to be a bully. She keeps making a big production of rushing the fenceline, and Mia keeps almost completely ignoring her :~D

Hi BigMack :~D

If you enter her flight information here: FlyteComm It will have real-time departure and arrival times, even groundspeed and altitude, and a map showing where she is for each leg of the journey. :~)

That's funny about Pony. She's definately got TheAttitude doesn't she.

Well, in the continuing saga of TheJack, I just called my in-law's and found out that my FIL apparently decided that he wasn't going to geld the jack when he heard how much it was going to cost. He's going to take him to the sale instead. But TheSale isn't until Friday or Monday, I'm not sure which. So the little bugger is still cooped up in the isle of my barn, which inconveniences the hell out of me because now I've got to feed everybody else outside. So basically everything we did last night was for nothing. I just love it when a plan DOESN'T come together. ~:-/

She's in the air :~D

This is ~not~ a real-time link. I had to upload the pic to snapfish for it to show up :~D

Short hop to Dallas. She arrives in 28 minutes.
