This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
yeah, I think Mia would be better too. I'd be worrying about Kat and "looking" for problems...
Besides, I'm looking forward to riding a crazy Arab:)
Becky
Oh, is the mule already broke?
Becky
Have a safe trip and a great time in Washington :)
We'll put you on Bay for that :~) She's a really mellow Arab, really sweet gentle temperament. She was alert, but not jumpy at all walking her into a new place. Getting her into the back forty, she walked right under the tarp lean-to we have alongside the barn. Bay still blows about that, and he's done it a hundred times :~)
The mule is broke, and I think she said about 7 years old. I think Tiff intends her to pack, and be a good riding mule for her husband Danny. He's not all that into riding, only goes occasionally, and even then he's mostly interested in scouting places to hunt. :~D
So with her bringing a new mule home, it actually probably simplifies things for her to have one less horse to juggle this weekend.
:) Mia might be dirty but she is beautiful. Reminds me very much of Cleo (Egyptian Arab we had that is mother to Tracey's endurance mare) You all have fun this week.
Thanks:) I'm so ready to get there:)
Becky
We will :~)
Ha!
So the journey begins...I can't sit here any longer, I'm heading to town, first step:)
Becky
WOO HOO! Talk to you once more from town, we hope :~)
~chuckling~ :~)
She reminds me of the stallion I had in high school. Same type.
I dunno. Marl's Aki is about as white as your guest (who really is a cutie), and he never rolls in mud. Maybe that's because he was raised for eight years by an old gelding who ruled his field with an iron hoof. Nobody rolled in mud.
OTOH, dry dust is another matter. Aki would be quite handsome as a roan, until he shakes all the dust off.
I'm so excited for everyone! Have a great time! :-)
What's even weirder (is "erier" a word?) is how horse colors look at dusk. I was driving out in the country at dusk, and caught sight of a couple of light-colored horses, obviously heading back to the barn.
Behind them were a couple of white blobs following them closely. My first instinct was to slam on the brakes, and exclaim "WTF is that?"
It took a few more seconds for my brain to realize it was a pinto, following his buddies back to the barn.
I'm now convinced that what I thought was just a gaudy paint job is actually a very effective low-light camouflage. If you're a predator, a solid-color horse, of any color, is more identifiable than some disjointed white blobs. Of course, in broad daylight none of this makes any difference. But in dusk/dark conditions, that pinto coloring gives them an edge.
I also think nature invented white socks and blazes for horses as low-light identification marks. It's easier to place your feet, or find your buddy, if there's some white to help out in the dark.
That's very interesting :~) You're right, you can't make out the silhouette of a pinto in the dark.
I'm in town. Stopped an got me a beer to drink on the way to the airport:)
Mack said we have to be there 1 1/2 hours early...we were both right and both wrong:)
Becky
We just had to head off a couple of garbage dumpers in our driveway! With a couch! ecurbh's posting the whole tale, he'll copy it here.
Thanks, I'm pretty excited now too:)
