The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Here is the latest....

Update 207: The Baltimore Sun covers the same problem in the "good" leg that was covered by the New York Times (update 205): Barbaro suffers another setback (thanks Sarah). Please read in full. Someone in the comments noted that it was a positive signal that I even saw Michael this morning. Oddly I had the same thought, and had mentioned it to Michael earlier (that I was relieved to see him at Fair Hill). I am not sure if he heard me to be honest.

Update 206: Saw Michael Matz this morning as I was going to the track. He told me Dr. Richardson had called and said Barbaro appeared a little brighter this morning (wednesday). I suspect we should take this news within the context of the two articles reproduced in Update 205. I'll post more later as I learn more.
updated wednesday 7:20am

There was an article in the Washington Post that was very bad, and it just didn't seem right. They quoted Dr Richardson as saying some things that I dont think he would have said. It was very different from the NY Times article. Alex Brown put the article up on www.timwoolleyracing.com if you want to read it. I think the fact that Michael Matz was at Fair Hill this morning instead of holed up at NBC speaks volumes, so I dont think the Washington Times article is right.

Thanks:)

Lot's of times when I have been trail riding, the horse will get real focused on something, sometimes you never see what it is, but lots of times it is a deer. I've always wondered if they hear them, or smell them.

Barbaro’s condition guarded

July 12, 2006

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro is continuing to rest comfortably today according to Dr. Dean Richardson, Chief of Surgery. “As we said yesterday, Barbaro’s condition is potentially serious, and we are aggressively seeking all treatment options,” he said. “Today we will focus on further diagnostics and keeping our patient comfortable.” Barbaro is being treated for fractures received at the Preakness on May 20 as well as discomfort in his left hind foot.

“He’s facing tough odds and his condition is guarded,” said Dr. Richardson. “Our entire staff is determined to do all they can for this magnificent horse.” All decisions are being made in constant consultation with the owners, who continue to be only interested in his comfort.

Barbaro remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center.

Watch for a media advisory for a press conference later this week. For more information on Barbaro, please see www.vet.upenn.edu.

Your new filly reminds me of the filly in The Black Stallion's Ghost. She is very pretty.

She looks like a ghost at night... looking out last night, I could see her out there almost glowing :~) Ours disappear in the dark.

Course, she's brown now, she's got wet dirt to roll in. I don't know what it is about white horses. I used to have a nearly white stallion, and he was the biggest pig. They hate to be white :~)

When Mack left here he said he would check how early I have to be there, I'm thinking 1 hour, but then thought it might be you're suppose to be there 2 hours ahead, do you know? If it's 1 we'll leave from town around 1:30. Just to help kill time, I'll probably leave here around 11:30, and go hang out with them down at the building. We have a computer there so I'll be around till we leave.

White horses do seem to glow in the dark. Even Harley is hard to see at night, but we've had white ones, and it is erie to see them running around at night..erie in a cool way:)

They do say you should be there 2 hours early during peak times. and your departure is a peak time. Not familiar with your airport, but SeaTac, the security lines can be an hour long during busy times of day.

I'd get there two hours early, then you'll probably scoot right through and end up waiting at your gate, but you at least won't be fidgeting in line looking at the clock.

Your flight home next week we might be able to get by with an hour early, at 0 dark thirty :~)

Killing time by reading everything, and saw this:

The whole scary meeting-crazy-internet-people moot, huh? ;-) Woo-hoo!

LOL, You wouldn't believe (or maybe you do, since you all have done this before), all the people around here who DO think I'm nuts, going to stay with people I have never "met". I can't get across to them that I have met you guys:). They're all like "what if you get there and these people are nutty, drug using, ax murdering, swingers:), I just tell them, well, I'll fit right in:) I mean, it could be as scary for them having me come stay for a week:) I'm pretty peaceful about the whole thing, (except the plane ride:), mostly because even Mack isn't worried about me staying with you all. He's got good instincts about people:)

After I said an hour, I thought I remembered it might be 2 hours ahead, I think we'll go for that. I'd rather be too early then pushing it. So then we'll leave town about 12:30

You're right, I've been through the same conversations with people before all these moots. They don't understand that we actually get to know each other pretty well on these threads.

But people don't understand that unless they're here!

And I'm glad you aren't worried about us, I'm not worried about you :~) They don't let you bring axes on planes any more anyway :~)

No, I've never been particularly worried about staying with you all....

Well, I'm showered and dressed....

waiting, waiting.....I'm ready for tomorrow and lolling around under those trees:) Even Mack has commented to people about the trees around your place.

~drums fingers on desk~ :~)

We're all ready here. I even managed to get some new shoes last night, while they were fixing the tire. There was a shoe store right across the lot. I needed 'em! -and it was a task I thought I had run out of time for.

Kat, BTW, she said is a lot better. I didn't see her move, she was in her stall eating dinner when we got there. She said if Mia gave us any trouble by the weekend, we might be able to switch, but Mia isn't the 'give us any trouble' kind of horse, so I think we'll be fine. Kat should rest another week anyhow, I think.

Tiffney goes on Friday to pick up a new mule she's probably going to buy - that'll be fun :~)
