This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

More Updates!! This was put up just a few minutes ago...
From Alex Brown;
Peter Brette had just left me a voice mail (I was on a work call) to let me know that Michael Matz had just called him (I gather Michael is almost living there lately), and Bobby was doing a little better, was brighter, standing on both hind legs, and looking for something to eat. These next few days will remain very critical for Bobby I am sure.

2 hours ago Mack called the job he was suppose to go to tonight because there was a big spotof rain on the radar loop right at the edge of Tulsa county heading this way. It never made it:(.
From the looks of it we probably won't get any.
Becky

It was good to see Rocky even joining in:)
Becky
It's a great moment you caught! With the delay, it always seems if I try to take the picture when they start to buck, it always catches them right when their feet hit the ground again :~\
Ugh - we just got back from hot freeway driving! We decided no way we're taking that truck to Mt. St. Helens. We're going to rent a car with air conditioning :~)
Well, we have a bit more cleaning to do tomorrow, then Tuesday go shopping! My hot-weather clothes are all in tatters. I need some new stuff. And shoes that are actually fit for town, my old tennies are toast.
Oh - and pick up the horse. :~D Tiff said Kat is actually doing a lot better, but she thinks she pulled a shoulder or something and we'd be better to take Mia.
Article/thread posted here:
I'm not sure what to say here:). I wish you all would just relax...all this work, and renting of cars. None of it is necessary on my account...really.
I'm very glad Kat is doing better. Do you know why she thinks she pulled a shoulder? What does she mean by a pulled shoulder? would that be the muscle?
Becky
We have to feel ready for company so when you get here it'll be vacation time :~) It's fun, and it needs doing :~)
And on the vehicle thing, we've always had a problem with transporting more than two people (including the driver) at a time, we only have the little Ranger - two people - or the big truck, which seats three but is rather close quarters. Rosie said she'd like to come too, so we're thinking we'll rent a nice car to go - it's not expensive and would be a lot more comfortable than crammed in a hot truck :~D
And on Kat, I'm not sure, because I haven't seen her move, but Tiffney thinks from watching her that she's sore in the shoulder like she pulled a muscle. Doesn't think it's in the lower leg. She also said it was not during or right after the ride last weekend that she got sore, that it was late in the next day... So that was a bit of a puzzle, but last night she found a broken post out in the pasture. Now she thinks it wasn't from the ride at all that maybe she got hurt at home afterwards, either got hung up in the fence or slid into it messing around.
Well, OKay:)
That would be great if Rosie went with us:)
I've always thought horses hurt themselves as often as or even more then humans were responsibile for hurting them:). Harley pulled a darn shoe off out there messing around just now:\. It's a rear one, so that's not as critical as a front. He's going to have to wait till I get back tho. I doubt Chris could get here now before I leave, and Macks going to be too busy to take time off to hold a horse....
Silly things.
Becky
Yes, Rosie hasn't seen the mountain yet either, the poor gal, if she'd come here on vacation, I'd have treated her like a tourist and taken her places. Since she was coming to stay, I haven't taken her anywhere :~\
She has a minivan, but tells me it has some kind of an odd wobble, so we think it'd be more comfortable to just rent a nice handling car. Those roads up to the mountain are curvy enough without adding a wobble to it :~D
Well, whatever works. I'm glad she will be with us, maybe I won't stand out so much as the tourist:)
Becky
The place is a tourist trap, everyone's a tourist :~)
The rental car is already reserved, and we have it Fri PM to Mon AM, so we have a bit of flexibility if required for proper volcano-viewing weather.
Well, my schedule for the last few days here is,tomorrow straighten up the house so Mack can be comfortable. Tues. Do ALL laundry and finish packing. Wed. leave....Not really enough to keep me busy and help time pass, but that's really about it. I may do some mowing Tues, altho most everything is pretty burned up. Up by the garden where I water, it could be mowed and over the lateral lines...
Becky
I think we'll probably have to mow one more time, probably Wed. Just the yard. At least the pasture's done :~)
I just looked at the forecast for Wa. 69 Wed, 72 on Thurs.
Thurs sounds like a perfect day to hang out at your house like we planned:)
Becky
They're still talking about some possible showers in the Wed Thurs time frame, aren't they? A little would be good, as long as it doesn't get carried away.
It isn't too serious...but it's true, it's not the most nimble handling vehicle. I'm still rather attached to it, though, despite the fact that it's just all wrong image-wise for a single gal...we've put in a lot of miles together! :-)
I understand that :~)
It's been to the edge of Maine and on a ferry up into the Maritimes...and then all the way here. I should take a ferry to Vashon or something, just so I have both extremes covered. ;-)
We may also drive to the wedding - my brother and sister-in-law and I, but we'll see. I guess it's silly to start worry about it going great distances now, but it's different when I'm alone and don't have to be anywhere at a particular time. And by then, it'll likely have close to 120k on it...so it's getting up there.
