The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks:) He would have much perfered a ride on the tractor that was dragging the arena. I have never seen a kid be so fixated on something, and from such an early age. He's been fascinated with tractors, lawnmowers, and bobcats since he was old enough to see them.

Gtandbabies and horses:')

Does it get any better:). He's not really talking in sentences yet, but he can say enough to get his point across:) Tractor, lawnmower, (lawnmower was the first word he ever said clearly, even before mom or dad:), and "bob" for bobcat:) Becky

So where'd you go?

I don't know....well, the kid was cute, the pony....I just could not buy a horse that didn't have a tail...it makes them look so off balance. It surprises me when people own horses that are well...ugly:).

But I guess this one is pretty good. I heard someone say she was taking him to some big POA barrel race that you had to qualify for to go to. Looked like a brat to me:).

You can't love POAs and some Appies if you have to have a tail :~D He does look like a brat, that's kinda why I like him, and the girl who would ride him :~)

We went out for an early dinner and some pints, then we did come back here, we just didn't really feel like posting :~)

The kid did do pretty good with him. Mom and dad would walk into the alley way with her and shut the gate after she had gone in. Shutting the gate seemed to bother him, he'd swing around and jump around. The little girl sounded a bit nervous a few times, but mom would tell her to lope him in a big circle to get the right lead, before she headed for the barrel. Once she'd get him moving forward he'd do OK, except between those 2 barrels. I was too busy trying to get a picture to notice if she may have been asking him to move out, but holding him back at the same time. That seems to be a common problem even with adults who aren't real confident, and it confuses the horse.

AHA! I just sent an email to Tiff... asking what I should get, feedwise, for Kat... She feeds some kind of pellet that's different than what I feed.

There comes a time during healing when humans get irritable say, "enough. I'm sick and tired of this". I don't see why animals would be any different:')

It's a confusing task sometimes, trying to figure out where horses hurt. If only they could tell you.

And the normal things they might do to figure out where the horse hurts, either trotting him around and watching, or numbing up areas until the pain goes away, they can't do with Barbaro. I'm guessing they wouldn't dare block that broken leg or he could really injure himself.

The laminitis (founder) fear was not in his injured foot, but rather in the good foot, and that would be easy enough to spot, so it's probably not that. Could be pain deep in his bones, or soft tissues of the leg that are really hard to decipher in a horse anyway. Heck, he might have back pain from standing and walking rather funny all this time. Interesting that he had an abcess in the other foot, that could be bad, if he can't put weight on that side either. I wonder why?

Good Morning.

Nice pictures, Becky. Congrats to Kristy.

Lemondropkid, I wonder if they exercise Barbaro at all. I agree with Cindy, he probably is sick of being. sick.

Looks like another beautiful day here. Yesterday, I managed to get a lot of yard work done. Billy the goat and the dogs were in the yard with me. That goat is a real hoot. Follows me everywhere.

Having a cast/brace on does make other things hurt. I'm having trouble with the palm of my hand, knuckles and fingers getting stiff and hurting. My palm feels like it's brusied...Maybe it's something like that with him

And yes you do reach a point where you think enough is enough:)

It did a small ash cloud last summer, I think it was, and was active enough that they closed Johnston Ridge where the cam is to tourists for awhile.

It steams pretty frequently, rumbles some once in awhile while that lava dome in the crater grows.
