This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Terrific! I like him a lot, he fits in with the Bay preference in certain circles around here! What's he done before, what's his experience and talents? Tell us about him :~D
And the hang gliders would be a fun treat. I had a flight instructor who had an ultralight... he said "Don't fly them higher than you want to fall :~)
I still have to line the edges of the pool with rocks --- I guess. It will look very artificial but I don't know what else to do. And --- we had four inches of rain yest. Cindydawg, did you get any up there?
LOL! No, he is named Buck because of his ancestry. This is the first time in my life I have ever had a registered animal of any kind.
On his papers he has a stud named Pretty Buck twice over. I looked up Pretty Buck on the Internet, and he was a Quarter Horse foundation sire, from the Waggoner Ranch (up near Arlington--- they got very wealthy on oil) and Pretty Buck was mostly shown at halter. There was a foto of PB, and he is a dead ringer for my Buck. PB also sired Red Buck, a well-know QH racing stallion, from the 30's.
My Buck's registered name is Dottie's Boy West, but I decided he looks like PB. If I can grab that pic. off the Internet I will post it but I am not good at that kind of thing. I will try.
His background? Well, I bought him from a place that tends to specialize in competition Q. horses, cutters ropers etc., and also run a lot of cattle. I drove in and told the man I wanted a 'little old lady horse'. So they had Buck --- apparently his son's teacher, an Ag instructor, wanted to sell this horse so they took him on to sell.
As far as I know he's never competed, but he has a heck of a sliding stop. They had him for about 6 months at that place w/o selling him. That I don't understand --- he's a dream.
Spent the morning weeding the garden and weedeating around the barn. I'm inside for the rest of the day - it's hot here now.
Yep, my grandson has very different rules at home and at my house but learned them very quickly.
Thanks for the background on the horse, he sounds terrific, glad you've got him :~D
I love the pond, I want a pond someday. I've been thinking of buying one of those big round stock tanks, which of course would be very hard to make look natural, but it's a start :~D
I love yours, and I think with some piled rocks it would look quiet natural as a spring in the desert :~D
Accckkk! Thank heavens my cats only bring me mice.
LOL - I'm sitting here wondering if it's too early to take a nap.
He is really nice looking. It sounds like you found a winner.
Sam looks disgusted, like maybe you're interrupting his hunting :)
My kids have a pool like that - they built a rock garden around it with some plants. It looks very nice.
My first little water garden was a #3 washtub set up on something --- I forget what. But you can give it a kind of '30's look, --- washday! --- with an inexpensive pump, and make the water come out of an old coffeepot into the washtub and then circulate.
Use an old scrub-board for a waterfall...mine was very inexpensive and really fun. Butterflies and deer loved it, since this is a dry climate and any water at all is welcome. And the sound of running water in the evening is sooo relaxing when you haven't had a drop of rain in 8 months.
