The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Learning to saddle their own horses was a very good thing:), especially since when they are younger and the new of having horses wore off, they usually rode for maybe 15-20 minutes then were off doing something else:|. It was very difficult to saddle when you knew there was a strong possibility of them losing interest before you were even done:). I thought for a long time that was just mine, but it seems they all do it, even little girls who profess to just love horses, and beg to ride....

We had some friends who had a little girl about Jenny's age. She begged and begged to come ride horses...We finally got her out here, and took her on a ride. about 10 minutes into it she asked "Is this all,,,this is boring". I just about wanted to knock her off:). Then when we got back to the house, she sat on the step and wouldn't play anything, because she wanted to ride in the arena where she could "run" barrels....I took her home.

Mine tend to want to do what I'm doing. One is good but two wears me out now. I rotate them. My boys don't understand but I rarely watch all 4 at once. Kids ever where. They are all too young to turn loose and besides safety stuff like putting up meds and chemicals I have refused to child proof my house. I don't believe in putting things up high but teaching them not to touch. That takes a lot of work though.

My house isn't child proof either. It does mean having the grandchild in site every single minute since he's not been taught to leave things alone. He has pretty much figured out that at grandma's house he best ask first :)

Good Morning and Happy Independence Day!

Washed my truck yesterday afternoon = it rained.

Stormed last night = more rain.

Horse show today = more rain.

Kids left early this morning, but I don't know if I will go. The showgrounds is quite a bit away and diesel is $3.05/gal! They just love to spike the prices during a Holiday.

Well I'm off to work awhile. I have to be careful that I don't scare my trainee off:') He said people had no idea of how much I actually do. I guess that was a compliment.

Happy Independence Day everybody.

I am still in a state of shock. My cat Sam brought in a coral snake and left it under the bed. It was dead. I about passed out.

He was trying to tell me all morning he had something under there. He always brings stuff in and devours/kills it under the bed. So finally I looked. Heart attack!

I was desperately trying to think of the rhyme, 'red on black, venom lack -- red on yellow, kill a fellow' Well, it was red on yellow.

And I can't keep him in all the time, my place is too small!

Well, any advice or other stories about coral snakes I would be glad to hear.

Pictures of my new horse coming up soon.

Yikes! Darn cats! Mine used to bring in moles and snakes, one big black cat I had when I was a kid brought a live garden snake for my brother to play with when he was sitting on the back porch. (Who was young enough to still be in diapers.) The cat would bat it to my brother, and he would bat it back. My mother, meanwhile, stood between them with a broom screaming her head off and dancing around. She made enough commotion to bring the neighbors running.

The cats that I'm with right now tore the place apart last night, ripped curtains off of the windows, knocked things off of the tables, and knocked the wireless router on the floor. :-( I thought someone came in and ransacked the place in the middle of the night.

Happy 4th everyone!
I'm going out to a cookout and a fair, and then going to see fireworks. There will be people visiting from Germany in the group, so things should be interesting.

Uncanny the amount of rain you're getting. This is really unusual, right?

I figured:), was wondering what you were doing up so early, on a holiday no less:)

I got a call from an old friend. I had run into her during the Green Corn. She wants to come out and visit....she use to ride alot with me and even did a few CTR's, but then she divorced and had to sell her horses. I've only talked to her occasionally since then, usually every year at the Festival...You've heard about her...she was 2J's neighbor:)....I was never sure about her, always tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, if you know what I mean...she now has a boyfriend, and I'm hoping her life is straightening out.

Well, it sounds straighter if I remember the neighbor story :~D

Is she going to want to ride when she comes to visit?

You remember right:)

No, we won't ride today. One Rocky isn't shod, and I don't have an extra saddle right now. I don't think she would ride Harley...She was never a very confident rider. I think she would view Harley as way to big, and would be intimadated.

She had a wonder palomino, he was just a time bit taller then Rock tho a lot longer in the back. I actually considered buying him when she sold him, but I already had several at the time. I've kicked myself for not buying him right up till recently when Harley started working so well for me.

IIRC, about 4 or 5 years ago, we had a summer like this. Rain all the time. April was so dry, might be making up for the lack.

Wouldn't it be great if we could design our own climate. Rain just once a week, every week, and nice temps in the seventies on the sunny days :~)
