The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks:)

No I haven't heard from him. He lives pretty far from here, he may just be waiting till he's in this area. Or he forgot:)

As you can see, most of the good riding is in beautiful Southern Ohio.

My brothers live in Lebenon, OH. Have been driving up there to visit they youngest that is in the hospital, maybe will have to combine a horse trip with it!

...I still like riding fast through forests etc.

Me too! That's why I like my Racking Horses. You can't beat 'em for a smooth ride at a fast pace.

Holy cow! What great opportunities for riding.

Unfortunately I'm waiting to hear from my trainer about my young guy Deuce. He seems to have some neurological issues going on in his neck. He went out and played hard after the show and am hoping he just played too hard. He had IV DMSO and oral and IM steroids to kill the inflammation. Am hopeful trainer will be reporting improvement today, which is the day we should see him more comfortable.

Ugh! I wish they could talk to tell us where they hurt or when they are sick.

Have you ever looked into a horse chiropractor. I had one work on my gelding, and it really seemed to help alot.

I hate to hear that about Deuce! An out of whack neck will really put anybody in a bind, and I speak from personal experience. The chiropractor always helps me, so you might take Becky's suggestion and see if there's an equine practitioner in your area.

It was not the State that put a lot of those trails in. The hard working people in the Ohio Horseman's Council fight to keep, maintain and develop more trails.
I live in the North East part, so it is quite a drive for me too.

Oh so sorry to hear that. I was wondering how you did at the show. Being away for a week, I might have missed your post.

Actually, the guy that worked on Harley said he wasn't a "chiropractor" but a massage therapist....but it was still getting everything in line.

You might try some of the stretching exersices. The one for the necks are the easiest. Get a treat (I hate giving treats, but it's about the only way to do this one), hold it at the horses side, and get him to stretch around to get it. The week before I broke my arm I had him stretching all the way around to about the middle of his hip. Do that in both directions. Then also, tease him down where the treat is between his front legs and move it back to where he is really reaching for it. Really good exersises for their necks. I also massage their necks, back, shoulders and hips with one of those vibrating bugs you can get at about any store.

We don't have many (if any, I'd have to think) riding trails in state parks here either. Most of our riding is in working timber state forest land. But here, with the exception of Mount Rainier, which is ~National~ park... most of our ~parks~ are small, picnic with a walking trail kind of parks... not big enough for horse trails. Most of the big public areas are working forest.

Great pictures Hair, as always! The last one is my favorite too. I never tire of looking at your tall timber and ferns.

I've slowed down in taking many pictures, I feel like I've already photographed it all a bunch of times before, with Bay's ears sticking up at the bottom :~D

It's so pretty in there, but all those mature timber areas will eventually be logged too. We try not to mourn it, timber's our purpose in that place. Some parts of that trail are pretty steep going down, and the trees and brush sortof mask that. It'll look a lot different logged.

We did have a great time, and afterwards, steak and lobster! Not a bad day really :~D

Shoer coming today.... with all the grass this year the horses are really long at 8 weeks. I'm looking forward to a status check on how we did on pasture decision making.

You don't want much do you? ;o)

I was expecting that.

72 from Browns Ferry, going towards Elk River, and the farm will be on your right,

That's not far from here. I'll check that one out. Thanks.

My old stud horse, Tuff, has an Alabama connection. He was foaled in Missouri then sold to a fellow named Elbert Tuder in Somerville, AL, which is not very far from Decatur. He spent 7 years with Mr. Elbert and was then sold to Dixie Heritage Farm in Gadsden, AL. He spent 4 years at Dixie Heritage Farm and was sold to a fellow in Michigan who kept him for a short while, and was then sold to a lady trying to learn to rope. She only kept him a few months, put him up for sale and I've had him ever since. And now he lives in South Carolina.

The old boy has done some traveling but he's home now and won't have to travel any more.

He's a grandson of Poco Bueno, with King on both sides, buckskin, bombproof, very muscled, and about 14.3.

Damn, Becky, he's nice. How much?
