The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It was pretty good.

UUMMMM...kind of sad, but happy too. A very nice love story.

Yeah, and it could even be qualified as an older chicks flick:). I can't imagine anyone much younger then in their 30's really being able to appreciate it.

I'd say it had limited appeal.

Ah - tonight fireworks for you? Not sure whether we should expect some tonight or not. It's been quiet the last couple of nights - quieter than usual!

I walked out to the end of the driveway to watch a little. I think their setting off bombs down there. At least commercial size works. Very big. The horses seem OK, but when I came back in all the dogs were in the house. I had left the back door open. The coolest part is the echo coming down the street from the booms.

Take a couple of disposable cameras with you to Hair's. You will enjoy all the pictures you take when you get them developed at home. I love digital pictures but regular old photos are so much easier to share without all the work of printing them out. Your family will really appreciate them too.

They are popping here too. I'm not going out though. We are having swarms of flys. I've never seen anything like it. Every time the door opens we are invaded. I took the kids to church tonight. We had to open one door at a time to the car and I still probably had to blow a half dozen out. They just "fly" into you in swarms.

Well, I'd think the flies would put a damper on the fireworks celebration.

Actually, after I posted, I was thinking that might not be a bad idea. I'm working at home tonight. I have to run up to my job in awhile. If the stands are still open I might pick up some smoke bombs.

Good Morning.

The Granddaughter won another second in English Showmanship and a fifth in Western Showmanship yesterday. The weather turned bad with a lot of wind and threathening skies, they pulled out before I got there.

Thanks everyone. She is right up there in points now. If she continues doing well, she just might get a year end award.

With all that wind yesterday, here is what happened to my big maple tree right behind the barn! It hit the fence, but luckily not the barn. This was yesterday afternoon, when the kids got home. I wanted to get some pictures, before I mentioned it this morning. Poor tree, it was rotten in the stump. Maybe, 20 years of throwing manure and sawdust around it, did it in. One time my Appaloosa gelding rolled right up against, and I had to roll him back over by hand.

Pretty close. Whew! Now to clean up that mess. So, glad it went East instead of South.

Also, didn't mention our new "pet", Billy, until I took some pics. He was someones pet and they kept him in the house! My daughter had to shave and give him a bath, because he stunk so bad! Just like a billy goat.

Goodness! Glad the tree didn't hit the barn. The unnerving thing about trees is you can't tell if they are healthy inside or not.

Cute goat! Goats are really endearing... I'd get one, but I'm afraid of how hard they are to keep in a fence. Let me know how you do with yours :~)

We keep this one tied for now in the aisle way, until we get a stall built. He makes quite a mess there. Very friendly and just loves to be with people. With my fence, he would not stay in. We only have the "no climb" fence in the back. I always liked goats too. :)

And that 'no climb' is what they need! Plus I think they'd be coyote bait here, not sure if you've got a lot of them there too. I'd definately have to keep him in at night.
