I have to admit, I've never seen him in a bad performance.

Kevin Spacey is the best Kevin Spacey impersonator I've ever seen.

Pity that's his favorite role.

Weird... I was just having this conversation the other day with a co-worker. I said almost the same thing. That he can be a good actor, but I'm always acutely aware that it's Kevin Spacey playing the role. There are some actors who are able to completely lose themselves in a role, where they "become" the person they're protraying. There aren't really all that many actors around today who really excell at this, but 2 examples that come to mind include Morgan Freeman and Ian McKellan.

On the other hand, Kevin Spacey is an awesome character impersonator. Did you (or anyone else) see the episode of "Saturday Night Live" where they did spoofs of Star Wars screen tests. His Walter Mathau had me rolling on the floor... "What the hell's a Wookie?!?!?"

I find that Morgan Freeman always plays pretty much the same guy. The wise older black man. He does it well, but never really seems to branch out from that.

I think Johnny Depp is a great actor. His original characters are great, but he is one of the better impersonators I have ever seen. He nailed both Hunter S. Thompson and George Jung in movies. Watching the bonus features on Blow it is pretty creepy how similar he gets to Jung except for some differences in their faces that makeup couldn't change they were the same. He had nailed every thing else.
