No, I wasn't okay. I got a case of whiplash (this was actually 35 years ago, and the car didn't have headrests -- it didn't even have seatbelts until the previous week when I installed them). A year of headaches, months with a (foam) neckbrace, and really touchy about my neck for a while after that.
The kid? He didn't call his uncle, or anybody else. Three days later his uncle called the police to make a missing persons report -- and learned the nephew wasn't missing at all!
He didn't get his license again until he turned 21.
