disassembling the katana to get specific part weights was thoroughly difficult, as it is made to fit very tightly. however, I did manage the trick:

Bokken Notes
23 June 06
Original Chisa katana overall weight = 45 ounces (nominal need to verify)
Finished wood plus habaki weight = 14.6 ounces
Original tsuba weight = 5.2 ounces
Bokken tsuba BLANK weight = 8.0 ounces
PLANNED bokken tsuba weight = 5.2 ounces
Current difference: 45 (14.6 + 5.2) = 39.8 14.6 = 25.2 ounces
Missing non-lead elements:
1. brass guard collar
2. brass pommel cap
3. leather
4. cord wrapping

I'm just pleased I was able to disassemble and reassemble that frightfully sharp mutha without:
1. getting cut!!!
2. damaging the sword

Yes, it doesn't look like you're supposed to take them apart. Can you get it back together now?

it is difficult to take down, but it is designed to be stripped for maintenance if need be. the only things holding the hilt together are friction and two small bamboo pins. that's a traditional design.

Dry heat it is! And I like it roasty! I may just have to go out onto the patio to warm up in a little while. Everyone else wants the temp at 68...

Vlad was watching a movie with Bill. James was in bed! In fact, James is still in bed; I'd better send a brother to roust him out soon.
All my girls have been at camp this week. It's been pretty quiet at home.
