A Conversation With God

“God?” The scientist said politely.

“Yes?”

“I know You’re busy. I just have a few questions ...”

“A few?” God inquired, raising His eyebrow.

“Just a few. I’m a scientist. I was a scientist.”

“You can still be a scientist.”

“I’m sure I’d have some difficulty with that.”

“No matter.”

“Yes, exactly. In fact, that was going to be my first question to You.”

“How did I create the Universe?”

“How did You create anything? I know You have the Power, but I was curious about the procedure.”

“Let Me show you. Let’s pick a nice smooth empty section of space-time. All you have to do is just pinch a little bit up like this, and twist it in a special kind of fold, like so, and there you have it, a bit of matter.” He released it, and it snapped back to smoothness.

The scientist reached out, and tried to pinch up some space time. It was very slippery stuff. He persisted, attempting to follow the example shown to him.

Finally he was able to grasp the slippery ends of a wrinkle in the smoothness. But he was unable to fold it in the special way he had been shown.

God showed him again, and again. God was patient.

Finally the scientist succeeded in folding a bit of it. As soon as he released it, it too snapped back into the smoothness from whence it had come.

“You’re an apt student.” God said. God was kind.

“Thank You. I am still curious, though. All the things You made at the Beginning are still around, in one form or another. How do You make them permanent?”

“Ah, yes. That is just a little more complicated. You have to grasp the different properties of it in different directions, twisting them in much that same way for each characteristic you are creating. It’s a bit like tying a sheepshank.” God said with a smile. “Here. Let Me show you how.”

God reached out into the smoothness, and pulled and twisted in several directions at once, then He added another piece to the first, then another and another ...

Finally, He held it up for the scientist’s inspection. “There you are. Neon. It’s one of My favorites.”

The scientist looked over the atom carefully. “That’s very nice. I can see why You like it. It’s very symmetrical and elegant.”

God released the atom, and They watched it drift away.

“So that’s how You did it? Just like that?”

“Well, there’s a bit more to it. I was making these with one Hand, and holding them with the other, when I noticed that I was running out of material. I had knitted up all of space-time into a Handful of stuff. The Universe was a little dark at that stage, so I said, ‘Let there be Light!’ and I released them.”

They looked out at the swirling galaxies and firmaments spread out before them. “Pretty, aren’t they?” God said.

I do have to be somewhere 7am my time tomorrow, but I am going to stay up to 1am my time to catch the Kathy Griffin show. I heard the show is about her going to Iraq to perform for the troops and I want to see what is shown.

I'll really be back in 15 minutes.
Nice hearing from you!

I heard someone say that "profanity is the last resort of the incompetent." I believe it.

Which f*ck*ng sucks as I'm rather G*dd*mn profane on a sh*tload of subjects.

Just like a finely crafted jewelers hammer compared to a sledgehammer, each has their place. To eschew one for the other simply based upon refinement is a sign of a mediocre mind in my never so humble opinion.

What I don't understand is the hypocrisy of saying that use of vulgarity is a sign of a limited vocabulary/limited mind, when the very act of shunning the use of such words is in and of itself a self imposed limitation.

Of course, I could just be feeling argumentitive this morning...

I read a book about the use of "inappropriate language" recently. It's actually very complex, linguistically.

Lingua-istics. Study of things lingual-mouth-tongue-speech related. Tongue in cheek. Getting cheeky. Running off at the mouth. Cunning linguists. Hhmmmm....

Trying to take this thread topic some place interesting but my brain just isn't up to the task today. Sorry...

The Yellow Face is OUT!

It's going to be hot this weekend and my hanging baskets are unhappy. One of them has a new bird's nest in it, but no eggs yet. Mama bird was smart enough to build in some elevation so I could water the plant without getting the nest wet.

But where did she go? Where are my eggs? I want baby birds!

You, DC, can be as profane as you want. I'm quite indulgent with people I'm fond of. Besides...under certain circumstances, a little profanity is a good thing...;o]
