Sorry I'm late. I have to share this with six other people, so I mostly do drive-by posting on the weekends.

I would think perhaps a "hidden" weapon in the tail, for close quarters fighting; it might be something that would respond to a certain "adrenaline" level, such as would be released in a fight to the death.

I'm just trying to get my science right.

My dragons produce alcohol through digestive processes. They produce electricity (through biological processes) for the purpose of igniting the alcohol.

I was wondering if the electricity could be manipulated into a kind of weapon as well. For instance, scorpions use their tails to sting their victims.

Perhaps dragons could use an electric shock to stun their victims.

For dragons used as beasts of war, (like war-horses), this tail-weapon could be amplified by harnessing the electricity to power a laser beam. Now that would be a weapon!

the tail is a counterweight and rudder, allowing it to aim its muzzle over a broader arc while in flight than would otherwise be possible. I don't think it would have a primary role as a weapon, but I also doubt getting smacked with it would be anything nice.

Not too shabby. Done with the semester--one class to finish my Associate's degree.

Plus roughly 45-50 hours a week, can't complain...8^)

I have seen illustrations of science fiction stories, in which dragons used their own feces as a weapon!

For me, this is totally undignified.

But I was thinking of the manner in which dragons might evolve. (Just as I often think about the changes that came about in Man as we evolved.)

From a small desert lizard, using rudimentary flaps of tissue as a means of warming itself, and occasionally as a gliding aid for escape from predators -- to the more ambitious diversion of ejecting alcohol laced spittle at its enemies for defensive purposes -- and then somehow developing the trick of being able to ignite that material for an even more effective weapon.

Of course, the P.S. de résistance was the melding of these things together to create flight capability.

And then the final thought about how electricity, biogenically produced, could also be harnessed for other purposes, such as defense or communication.

I want my dragons to be impressive! (As well as scientifically plausible.)

I am so glad I've never seen or heard of anything like that before.
