If you only have the words of Jesus, you are not working with the entire revelation of God to man. No wonder you are struggling a bit. Even Jesus accepted the Holy Scriptures that had been revealed to man during his time (The Old Testament) as the Word of God.

Read the Bible. The entire Bible. The Words of Jesus are critical, and so is every bit of God's Word. Once you consider all of God's Word, you will have a better picture of the truth.
