What I find interesting about Baker's statement is that he confirms, obviously through the detailed information he has received from DPD, that the alleged attack occurred early on the 14th, not late on the 13th which is the timeline Nifong would like to embrace due to Reade's documented alibi. You'll recall that Nifong used a hypothetical "What if I have a different timeline?" in response to questions he was asked about what he thinks or has to say about Reade's alibi. Since the party photos came out and Reade's alibi was established, Nifong has tried to back the timeline up to discredit both, even going so far as to suggest that the 12:41 photo showing Crystal's leg hanging out of the door and the player standing there were taken an hour earlier and is actually her arrival, not departure. But Baker says the alleged attack took place early on the 14th, and his info would come from DPD reports, meaning he's not pulling it out of his butt the way Nifong does.
Jezebelle, this post is not directed at you but is intended to relay something of interest. I just signed on today but have followed this subject on FR almost from the beginning. I have lurked on FR for over two years. I have more than a passing interest in this subject as I have a son that works for a division of Duke University. To protect his privacy I will not reveal any more than that.
To the interesting matter that I have uncovered: I have questioned, from the beginning, the labeling of the "false accuser" as a NCCU student. The link below is a PDF file from the NCCU website listing students and their accumulated hours since 2001 up to May 9, 2006. On page 79 a listing appears for Mangum, Crystal G. The listing shows the accumulated hours for this person as "0".
I believe that this "student" label has been applied to her to make her more sympathetic to the general public and to the potential jury pool. Being a stripper/hooker is not near as compelling as a "student". Maybe there is some other actual proof that she is a student, but at this point I don't believe it.
