Quick Comment on tonight's FINALE.
Round 1: "Black Horse And Cherry Tree" vs. "Livin' For The City"
Kat decides to stand up this time, robbing the performance of what made it unique in the first place. Without the focus on her stage-humping, her voice has to carry the day--and it doesn't quite make it. She sounds nervous.
Taylor, OTOH, comes out of the audience to sing "Livin' For The City", and in spite of a couple of rank notes in the mid-section, he hits one right down the line for at least a base hit. It's a far better performance than he gave during the season on this song 10 weeks ago. I prefered the suit he wore in Stevie Wonder Night.
Winner: Taylor.
Round 2: "Over The Rainbow" vs. "Levon"
Kat tries to recreate the performance that got her here from last week...and does a very good job. I think she'd have been better suited to sing something else--"Someone To Watch Over Me"--instead of something she'd sung the week before. Still, she does great.
Taylor's nerves finally get to him during the opening verse of "Levon"--there were some real rank notes in there. Why the heck did he have to change the tempo and arrangement ? The original version he did 15 weeks ago was great with its piano intro. This time he slowed down and it just did not sound as good as before. If I heard this for the first time, I'd have been un-impressed.
Winner: Kat.
Round 3: "My Destiny" vs. "Do I Make You Proud"
THIS IS THE ROUND THAT I DREAD AND IF IT WERE UP TO ME, I'D SCRAP THIS WHOLE ROUTINE. THEY ALMOST NEVER WRITE GOOD SONGS AND THIS TIME IS NO DIFFERENT. EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE I HAVE TO SAY.
Kat debuts her coronation song. The title already is a portent to how horribly schmaltzy the song will be -- MY DESTINY.
It sucks. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. It's not for lack of trying on her part, though; she does the best she can with the stinky song. Poor Kat. This song totally killed her. It was UNFAIR and I have a feeling that a sabotage was planned here.... except .... the other songs was crappy as well.
OTOH, Taylor, comes out and embraces the complete and utter cheesiness of "Do I Make You Proud", and comes across as something he hasn't come across the entire season...modest. The audience goes ape-sh-t. Simon proclaims him the winner. TaylorMaids and SoulPatrollers agree and start their en masse voting.
Winner: Taylor, and it's not even close.
LOSER -- BOTH TAYLOR AND KAT FOR HAVING TO RECORD THIS CRAP.
That's what you get for selling your soul to Mephistopheles. 19E is Purgatory you have to pass thru. The sooner they get out of their contract the better.
Should win: Taylor.

I am gonna go watch the show. Then I'll be texting for Taylor into the wee hours tonight. Thanks for the preview. Now I know when to keep the dogs away from the living room to protect their ears.
To: Txsleuth
I can NOT get through. I am about ready to throw a tantrum.
To: I'm ALL Right!
My middle son called me....I told him I was busy voting for Taylor! He asked if I was ok.....ROFL! He's 24, what does HE know?

Oh I totally agree. And that is the difference between the two. I still felt bad for her, though.

Ain't no way unless this thing is fixed. If McPhee wins this, I will have no choice but to join the tinfoil crowd.
There is just no way--NO WAY--she should win this.

BOTH TAYLOR AND KAT FOR HAVING TO RECORD THIS CRAP.Ahem, thank you. Third place is good, Elliott.
To: Wolfstar
Their current single lost the two pop radio stations it was playing on. Last week it was #417 on the Mediabase Pop radio airplay chart. This week it's unrated, because zero pop stations are playing it. SCHADENFREUDE

(Taylor--he sings, writes his own songs, plays instruments, has charisma, and he's the whole package.)

BITE your fingers...NO, NO, NO---Taylor's hair is part of his charm!

Taylor needs to dye his hair and he is ready for the big time.
You're a guy,what do you know!!!!!
To: Netizen
K has only a high end to her voice IMO. I listened to the Over The Rainbow song and there was nothing on the lower end that was all that praise worthy.

Dail Idol is now calling it for Taylor. (Katharine is in "red" which means she goes "home.") Not if Tim Russert has anything to say about it!

I will be right behind you in line buying the tin foil hat...but, I have thought that ever since that week that Simon was really hard on McPhee...and the next week apologized and changed his "mind"...
THEN we find out her parents went and talked to them afterwards on the "bad review" night...I have noticed a big change in the way Simon has treated Kat..
And although she wasn't a favorite of mine to begin with...THAT got me to the point where I can't even listen to her or watch her...
Just tell where the line forms...

I didn't see Kelly on the Early Show, but good old reliable KCE will have a clip somewhere, I'm sure. It was really good. I never heard Kelly sound that "Texas" before :)
