Do you think it was a valid criticism of her bad song choice when she didn't pick the song? That's like criticizing someone because you don't like her parents. Oh, I forgot, ya'll do that all the time too.

It was a dumb thing for Randy to say. It was not invalid to criticize her performance. And she pouted about it as if they had no right to criticize.

There is a difference in how you react being told that "you won" versus "he lost". Take a look at Miss America pagaents as an example. When the 4th runner up is named, the remaining do not jump up and down. Proper respects are paid. Then, when the winner is annouced, that person goes nuts. Subtle but very important distinction in the two reactions.
Of course they have a right to criticize the performance, bu the criticism was that the song choice was bad, and Randy was saying that the song choice was responsible as the major factor in why she did poorly on the song.
If they asked Elliott to sing Eminem and he did a bad job would you say that they should rip into his performance? or did the song choice suck?
You and I obviously listened to two different shows. Randy and Paula both criticized her performance and then Randy said it was a bad song choice. To the former she said, "you all have been very hard on me lately." To the latter she said, But I didn't pick it!"
I think you are making a very large distinction between two things that are identical. If you are one of these contestants, you are concerned first and foremost with one thing--
HOW DOES THIS INFORMATION AFFECT ME?
Only after a few seconds of reflection can you begin to think of the other guy. If you feel really safe, you can show empathy sooner, like Taylor was able to do. Assume Elliott had won it all, and been named AI-- should he have moped around the stage for the rest of the night because his bud got voted off?

Your Miss America is a bad example, when they name the 4th Runner Up, that does NOT tell everyone else that they are moving on to the next round. There is still more information to be given very soon.
It is more analagous to the announcement of the Winner of Miss America-- the winner is not expected to feel initial sorrow at having won because she beat the other person. That comes second, or at least a fake version of that comes later. But make no mistake, they ain't giving the crown back...
Help to my Freeper friends! I tried to buy tickets today for the concert in Hershey - went on line at 1000 and coudnt' get any. Went to the ticketmaster outlet and also coudln't buy any, called the box office and they said they were sold out! Want to go to Hershey or Wilkes Barre PA
And the grande finale: he Brittenum Boys and Bo Pickler will have a shootout while Ryan Seacrest cowers behing Kat McPhee and Chris Daughtry takes all three of them out with a few good karate kicks.
