With the West Coast bump for Kat and the DI underreporting of text votes, even Taylor may be falling behind the pseudo-diva.Mr. RK and I were texting like crazy for Taylor. We each got around 100 and I through 50ish in for Elliot, too.

Now that you mention it, I don't think McPhee is that dedicated to singing. She's had all sorts of training and has undoubtedly been told the same thing that you told us about voices, but yet she can't seem to control her voice the way a dedicated singer should. Either she isn't able to or she doesn't care to learn how. (She may think she doesn't need to learn.) I think it's a little of both. Agree completely. I mentioned earlier that I see absolutely no passion in her performances. Everything is "trained" and "rehersed." The reflexive smiling when the camera is on her is very annoying to me (big smiling through a song called "I Ain't Got Nothin But The Blues" is exhibit A). Couple that with the incredulous looks and defensive tone of her voice when receiving the slightest criticism (i.e. "she doesn't think she needs to learn"). I just wonder how much she wants this. She's had all the training and attended the conservatories because that's what she was told to do. Taylor, in comparison, has played all the fraternity band parties, all the bars, slept on all the sofa's purely for his love of music. That is why I want to see him win. He believes it with every fiber of his being. Kat just goes through the trained motions.
JMHO of course as everything that is wrong with "popular" music is exemplified in this comparison.

I'm sitting here watching the show again right now, and Katherine just finished singing her first song, and I have to say this, the girl is a whiner. I picked up on it last night and it just really aggravated me when she said after Randy's comments, "you've been hard on me the last few weeks". Well Duh,,,,there is a reason for that, she hasn't been any good. The girl is getting by on looks and sympathy. She as NO personality, is petulant and immature.
Elliot shows charm and maturity and grace when being given constructive criticism.

Wow! That's a keeper performance. I like it as much or better than Bon Jovi's rendition. Thanks for the link.
I love Chris' voice--when he isn't screaming.

ROFL! After I posted that, I got back on the phone and voted all through House...total # of votes: 207.
No, I don't normally vote that much, but my husband is out of town on business and I don't have anything better to do! :-)

He believes it with every fiber of his being.Got that right. Win or lose he will be playing music somewhere for the rest of his life.

Nice read on Kat from mj's Big Blog:
Both Randy and Paula started out their critiques complimenting her look (uh oh) and then rightfully criticized her performance. Then Katharine whined, "You guys have been hard on me the last couple of weeks" Pssst Katharine....that's because your performances haven't been very good. When Randy said her problem was song choice--well, admittedly that was a dumb thing to say, 'cause she didn't pick it--she still should have just smiled. Instead she snotted, "I didn't pick it!" She came off like an entitled brat. Afterward, Simon stepped in like an indulgent parent and said, "I think you're actually being a bit unfair...Randy...she didn't choose the song...and I think apart from a couple of bum notes (a couple?) at the end, you kind of created a bit of a moment for yourself" Wow, he really wants her in the Final Two--unless he meant a really horrid moment. Cut to Katharine and she had a look on her face like, "Yay! Daddy loves me! Stuff it Mommy!" Just. UGH.

Taylor said this week that all he wants is a "tour bus" and to never get off it! I believe that is true - he has struggled for gigs his whole life and now he won't have to anymore, regardless of the outcome this week and next.
That's why all the shoutouts to Soul Patrol - he knows his fan base and the people who will be following him around to his concerts and buying his music for a long time.
To: retrokitten
I said after "Try A Little Tenderness" that he performed that like it was his last performance on the show. He went after like it was life or death and if h gets cut, he left it all on the stage. Exactly how it should be done every time. And he does it that way almost every time.

Yeah, he does. He seemed to get a little bored a few weeks ago, but then it was like he said, "Screw that" and just did his Tay Tay thing.

What will they sing next week?
I got through several times last night to vote for Taylor. I voted until they closed.

Or there is something else going on. She has a vapid look every now and then that may represent some learning difficulty. I think what happens is she pushes too hard to impress and that's where mind can go blank.
From personal experience and a player I have to constantly remind myself to "Lay Back" or I'll be playing too hard and thinking about trying to do what I hear in my mind's ear by pushing myself into making sure it works...that's when you get in trouble. (Guitar/Drums)
I think Kat is trying to impress by thinking she can reach those high notes and all those trills causing herself to stumble. I think it was Simon who told her one time, "Less is more"., but it's really what seperates the Great from the real good. 25 years and I'm just really starting to learn this, I hope she learns to lay off now! It is why she won't win AI, because she definately has pipes!!

Kat will be in the finals. She will lose to Taylor. It's almost not worth watching. The outcome is clear as a bell. Simon knows it. We all know it.
