Who pulled your string?

Uh, that would be you when you insulted a friend of mine.

Hey, for those of us who spent most of the nineties in out twenties, that music makes some sense.

Ministry was fun and Nine Inch Nails was break up music for guys or for those on the edge of falling into the abyss. You also started to see a blurring of rap and metal in that time.

Pinging you to a Josh Gracin post, Wolfstar

Thanks Jonny. Much appreciated. BamaDi, I really like Josh too. When Jonny pinged me, I went out to the Mediabase Radio Airplay charts. Sure enough, Josh's new single debuts at a high #27 with an up bullet.

Can't argue with Simon's success, but really, he's a promoter. I don't think he's the last word as a judge of talent by any means.

I keep waiting for Simon to stomp around whining in interviews complaining that Josh "owes it to his fans" to let AI use his songs. That ought to be good for a bunch of laughs.

Sure AI was the vehicle that gave Josh exposure, but he took that opportunity and ran with it. The AI crowd never helped him after he left the show, and everything he's done since, he's done on his own with mentoring from a couple of Country stars -- and after he finished his commitment to the Marines. So IF Josh lets AI use his songs, and IF he appears as a guest, it will be on Josh's terms and not because Simon bullied him into it.

Good news for Chris! That takes some of the sting out of last night.

Jonny, I'm glad you pinged some of the more unhappy Chris fans on the thread. Misterrob has been saying all along that Chris should front a band. He even said it last night after Chris went home. Kudos to you, misterrob. You know what you're talking about when it comes to music.

I only just got home a few minutes ago, so I don't know if this news has been confirmed. But it shows the direction people in the industry think Chris should go now.

There's a video on the American Idol official website of Associate Music Director Debra Byrd, the attractive black lady we see coaching the kids sometimes. She's been with the show every season, so they had her do this vid to record her thoughts, opinions and a bit of how she works with the kids. She said that this year has been the most intense because Kelly Clarkson's two Grammys brought everything to a new level. I also don't think there's any doubt that Kelly's success has made a lot of industry insiders give a fresh look to the more talented contestants on the show. I'm not sure that the Fuel opportunity would have come up in 2002 or 2003 when the show was new and its winners untested.

"Tonight is the first time I've seen a replay of Ryan telling Chris he was done. That was really, really harsh."

I just saw Chris on Jay Leno. Jay asked him about that and he said, "naaa...it's just good TV." What a class act. He seemed in pretty good spirits too.

It helps when the offers start piling in and you happen to like the other people on the show.

You're right, I'm sorry.

Apology happily accepted. :)

I honestly believe that thanks to Kelly Clarkson winning two Grammys, this year's top 5 will have many more doors open to them than any of the other top 5 contestants from the last four years. So don't worry about Katharine. She'll be fine no matter who wins.

Good for Chris. Maybe this will subdue some of his fans wanting Ryan's head on a platter. As for being in good spirits, every Idol who has been eliminated lately seems somewhat relieved to be off. Not happy they lost, but probably glad to be away from the pressure cooker and on to their post-Idol careers. Chris for one has nothing to worry about - he leaves a bit of a martyr and popular as ever if not more so.

From the official AI website: This Tuesday, they'll sing a song of their choice, a song chosen by the judges and a song chosen by legendary music producer Clive Davis.

(Apologies if this has already been posted. Haven't caught up with the thread.)

Little known fact: Chris' NC employer has kept him on the payroll during the entire AI time.

BTW what channel is the midnight Idol show on tonight?

Seventies: Zeppelin, Purple, Floyd, Sabbath, Allman Bros, ZZ Top, BadCo, Jeff Beck etc

Eighties: Stevie Ray Vaughan, T-Birds, U2, Robert Cray, etc

The Nineties was a complete waste of time.

Agreed - 90s music sucked. I have XM and often enjoy surfing between the 60s and 80s channels looking for good tunes. The 90s either have wailing lesbo-acoustic-folk gals or shrieking caterwauling three-chord guitar guys. I'm sure there are a couple exceptions, but popular music took a potty break that decade.

Most of what you mention is heavily blues influenced (no issue there) or mid-range rock with heavy chords that every mullet head in America butchered in their basements while trying to become the next big thing. Sabbath had some seriously unimaginitive music and while I could say that U2 was interesting as an up and coming band, they became so self important that it became unbearable.

ZZ Top kicks ass though and Bon Scott died too young.

It's on Fox Reality TV...

Mostly lame but that's my opinion.

"Sabbath had some seriously unimaginitive music"

When you work out "Warning" on the guitar, let us all know.

"Bon Scott died too young"

Actually I think he was out on a bender with Ozzy, and passed out in a parked car in the middle of the London winter.

Someone correct me if I have the story wrong.
