Someone to Watch Over Me was a pretty good performance. I just don't know how they market that beyond the AI buzz.

She could do sultry sexy stuff and I might confess to watching it for at least 10 minutes. If the wardrobe is right, maybe 20.

BO BICE 'nuff said.

Oh yeah, I remember him, he came in second and signed with Clive.

It was bad. Chris deserved to be handled better.

(this might've been answered in the past thousand or so posts). Why are they mad at Taylor? Was it spontaneous on that star-woman's part to ask Taylor to do Jailhouse Rock again?

I would also like to point out that Taylor took it well when he was asked if he was drunk, insulted for his dancing, told that he'd never get to Hollywood he was so awful, and was a typical, boring kareoke singer.

All of this while Chris was treated as the second Coming, until he had difficulty doing two songs in one night.

it takes a combination of natural ability, charisma, and looks to win in life and on this show

Apparently so, but I'd think that in order for a person to win they should at least be able to sing good, and in my opinion, Taylor doesn't.

It isn't a talent contest, any more than one could claim the current chart-topping artists are the "most talented" ones available. Reality is, it takes a combination of natural ability, charisma, and looks to win in life and on this show.

True, so true. In essence, there is something almost unquantifiable about what really makes a star. That's why they call it the "IT" factor.

Billy Joel calls himself a mediocre singer, but look at his overwhelming success. You can say the same for other legends, like Elton John, Rod Stewart, etc.

Mick Jagger's strutting and preening would look ridiculous in a vacuum, but it works becuse he IS Mick Jagger.

I think Taylor has that kind of appeal, the only one with real charisma and a true "IT" factor. When someone else changes a lyric or makes an awkward dance move, it's called a mistake. With Taylor, it's just him being himself and "feeling the music". I know some people hate that, but it's true. He has a star quality that even industry giants like Foster and Mottola attest to, and is probably the reason why amongst the celebrity set (and millions of us plebes) he is a favorite.

Any anytime you are tempted to dismiss Taylor on the dance numbers alone, he breaks out sweet soulful renditions of American pop standards. More than anyone on AI ever, I believe he IS the total package.

As you said, your opinion - not one shared by even the most famous Taylor-basher of all - Simon, who said on Tuesday night that Taylor SANG his way to the next round.

And last I checked, has sold a lot fewer records than Carrie. So maybe the voters got it right after all? (Not a knock on Bo, but rather a positive comment on Carrie and the voters.)

It was because Chris' people had felt him to be the guy who wins it. (Nothing like entitlement mentality)

Can't we all just get along?

Very good points. Even if the song request was staged, Taylor wouldn't have been in a position to refuse. They also had him pick out the group he thought had the lowest votes a couple of weeks ago and that put him on the spot, too.

"He should have kicked Seacrest's ass on tv last night. Major disrespect"

He told Daughtry he was going home.

For this, he should be violently attacked?

Good points. Each of the contestants have had their share of getting pimped and getting blasted. Taylor of all the finalists has received the most steady heat from Simon. The way he has handled it and kept on doing his thing and appealing directly to the voters is what has helped keep him on top.

I actually went back and just listened to "In the Ghetto" again last night, eyes closed. It honestly wasn't really all that good. Pretty mediocre, actually. Still better than Chris' and Kat's second numbers, but those weren't hard marks to surpass.

There really hasn't been anyone to replace Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Cher....the bigger than life female singers who can control and use a whole stage with their voices and energy, and still be feminine.

I think that's why Paula was praising Katherine's dancing last night. She, the past two weeks, has come across as someone who can be forceful and feminine at the same time....as long as she doesn't wear silly dresses she can't stay in.

I said it in another post. With the energy and her beautiful voice, she can do a female Elvis kind of thing. When she just stands there and sings, that unused energy sometimes results in screaming.

And, no, there is still a conspiracy afoot against Chris brought about by the tri-lateral interests backed by the CFR and financed by Haliburton. NO BLOOD FOR OIL!!!

ROFL!

I disagree completely. But it's all a matter of personal taste.

Carrie sings a very strong commercial type of music. Country is a gold mine if you are good at what you do. Plus, she has a smash hit song that she was given to work with and she did a great job with it.

Bo was asked to put our a crappy record and while it went platimun, the songs and production on it were not good. Plus, his niche is not as defined as hers.

Doesn't take much to get an old lady smiling.

We smile because he brings back the bad ol' days of spontaneous fun vs. political correctness and selling out.

Since day one I never felt the draw to Taylor Hicks that so many of you have and surprisingly (even to myself) I agree with Simon where Taylor is concerned. He seems like a very nice guy and would be fun to be around, but I don't like the way he sings. He just doesn't to "IT" for me.

From the AI boards:

Ryan on radio today defending his handling of the Chrismissal:

Says he was shocked and wanted to convey that shock to America; says Paula was so upset she couldn't do the postshow interviews, "vey very upset"

I voted five times for Chris and two times for Elliot. I'm going to continue to vote for Elliot now that Chris is gone (boo hoo.) I would have imagined that Chris would have sold more CD's than the other three combined. So it's a shock to realize that he's gone. Why didn't you simply give all 7 votes to Chris? Then you may not be so shocked.
