They had a piece on tv the other day here in Houston about how people were abusing the EMS system. They showed a woman who called in saying her toddler wasn't breathing well, instead the kid was fine but she wanted a ride to the doctor's office.

The ambulance can not refuse to take them so a $10 taxi fare turned into taxpayers eating a $600 or $700 ambulance run.

When my back goes out really bad and I can't stand the pain -- morphine or demerol takes it away -- I can't sit and wait in the waiting room with all those sick kids. I will get everything they've got a week later with a still sore back.

So my insurance company taught me to get through the back door via ambulance. The insurance pays for it 100 percent as long as you don't call 911.
