I think blowing smoke is more up Nifong's alley considering his chest pounding at the beginning of this case.
He won and election after being totally incompetent, so he figures he can say anything and nobody will hold him to it.

The blowing smoke theory holds the most water. Nifong has been really loose with his comments--the DNA test comments, the struggle with nail scratching, the long sleeve shirt theory, etc. The true believers (Wendy, Nancy, the Durham black community) have been giving him a pass anyhow so why not keep running at the mouth. BTW, is the father, the one alleged to have been told the DNA is good news, actually Scuze Me? If so, I doubt he can reliably relate a conversation.
