Since by this time Mangum was non responsive and Roberts knew she was violating parole and didn't want to meet up with the cops, I've always assumed that Roberts drove around with Mangum trying to figure out what to do with her. Roberts wouldn't dump Mangum in a ditch but she tried to dump her at Kroger. Unfortunately for Roberts the cops got called anyway and Roberts is busted.

Why did she have to dump her? Why not take her home?
