I think I'd be so mad that I would call Sen. Grassley and tell his staff that if something doesn't happen, and soon, that the family is writing letters to the editor to let people know what's going on with immigration in this country. And I'll bet the papers would print the letters too because it's such a hot issue right now.
It must be horribly disappointing and frustrating for your family with regard to the church as well.
When I was 8, my dad left my mother with 4 little kids, including my 3 week old sister. The priest came to visit my mother within a few weeks; we lived on the same block as the church and I went to Catholic school. He told her she was no longer able to receive the Sacrament. At the time she needed the church the most, they abandoned her.
Thankfully the church no longer does this. And even in the 60's, some priests had better sense and didn't make it an issue. I miss the church a lot but as long as my mother is alive, I can't go back because it would feel like a betrayal to her.

You know what the problem is when letters are sent? letters received? The little mail clerk will file 13 it to keep it away from the politician, that is what I think.
