I think you pretty much nailed it except you forgot about the race-baiting DA who sees this as his ticket to reelection.
Wasn't that a hit at Nifong when Osborn wrote that he would be presenting an alibi defense with witnesses "who should be known to the DA"... kinda like "A competent DA would have known of these exculpatory evidence/witnesses and would not have charged my client."
