Interesting about the passports and Mexico. When we went to Mexico over New Years, we only had to have photo ID because we were there less than 7 days. Anything over that required a passport, however the link Mozie put up says ALL travel will require it. Hmmmm...
We've been near a border town all winter. Walking across the bridge and back for the day has required only a photo ID to get back into the good old USA. (Gotta wonder if that's going to change). Nothing except a quarter or two for the turnstiles is required to get into Mexico.
Coming back into America, an agent asks if you are a US citizen, you (or anybody going through the line, Hispanics included) answers "yes", the agent barely glances at your drivers license and you sail on through.
December 31, 2006 Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
December 31, 2007 Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings.
Looks like as of 12/31/07 ALL border crossings to or from Mexico and Canada will require a passport........
That happened to us too, when we went to Pieadras Negres, I was so surprised, I asked the guard if he liked my picture. It ticked me off.
