A talkative parrot stolen from a Shreveport home was found Thursday while police were investigating complaints about drug dealing.
Police said the parrot, who likes to drink Coke, may have been traded by somebody who wanted coke of the illegal variety.
The 15-year-old blue and gold Macaw Parrot, named Bubba, was stolen this past Saturday from a house on Ravendale Drive.
A police officer and probation officers found him as they investigated complaints about drug crimes on a street in North Shreveport. Police Cpl. Mary Coburn said they went into a house on Simpkins Drive and found $9,000 worth of cocaine and marijuana -- and a parrot that looked out of place.
Police said Bubba, who loves to drink Vanilla Coca-Cola from a can, knows his name and has "a very large vocabulary." The owner told them his bird also waves bye, meows when he hears the words "Here, kitty-kitty," can bark like a dog and dances when he hears rock and roll music.
The irony of beverage choice was not lost on police, who said the thief may have stolen the parrot and traded him for cocaine.
Police Sgt. Jim Taliaferro said the bird that police found matched the description of the stolen parrot. They got a confirmation when the parrot kissed his owner.
"I still wanted to believe that I'd see him again, but it was a tough struggle," Bubba's owner, Mike McGee, said.
"I wish he could tell us more," McGee said -- a sentiment held by police, who are still looking for the person who took Bubba.
Marcus Paul was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to distribute. Coburn said Paul told police he bought the parrot on Saturday.
At least Bubba's not an ex-parrot.
Norwegan Blue. Lovely plumage, in't it?
