If it turns out this woman is lying, for whatever reason, the vultures have already descended...Jesse and gang. They smell big money...lawsuits against the alleged rapists/kidnappers, against Duke. Meanwhile where do the accused go to get back their reputation (such as it is when you're 20 and a college kid)? And the damage done to race relations in NC is tragic, no matter what.
What about the damage to North Carolina. Any company moving to the Raleigh-Durham area is going to think twice.
It seems to me there's some doubt about whether they are rapists or not. There is no doubt that they have some serious personal problems, and that reputation will be earned.
if they have been suspended by Duke, they will have a great cause of action against the school. The DA, because he is the one who did the investigation has opened himself up to personal liability; and may have opened up the city for a lawsuit as well.

It is harsh to say but, with the increasing tide of Hispanics and, to a lesser degree Asian folks, into the country combined with ever increasing rates of abortion, race relations between black and white just won't matter at all in a few years. They chose their political alignments poorly and have pigeon-holed themselves into insignificance. Their numbers can't elect a democRAT president and most big cities are crumbling from within.
