Who exactly is paying you to "write" for a PR firm?

The PR firm does. They farm out a lot of their writing projects to me. Sometimes it's just dry and dust press releases. Sometimes I write articles for client newsletters and magazines. Sometimes I write letters for clients.

Just depends on what they need.
