"Why would your rates go up if you are not at fault?
ALL of our rates go up when an insurance company pays out for a not-at-fault accident. The money has to come from somewhere, and it's passed back to the consumer. That is why in Texas, my auto insurance is twice what is was in Ohio: there are a bunch of uninsured illegals driving around, and the companies know it. It's the same reason ALL of our healthcare expenses are higher than they should be, b/c the hospitals know that a certain percentage of non-paying customers will be treated.
Yet another reason not to move to Texas. Thanks for the explanation.
