I would like to hear from others that have students in high school in the public school system. Are you students permitted to use their cell phones during the lunch hour?
Next time use text message. Actually our school is very tolerant, we parents appreciate it.
Real emergency = call to school on land-line.
In Japan , only college kids are allowed to take a cell phone to school . Of course , some kids take them anyway . But beware if you are caught with it .
No, my kids are not allowed to use their cell phones to make calls during school hours. However, they are allowed free use of the student phone to make calls, if necessary.
Our school has a message system in which a message related to a family emergency would have been immediately carried to the student, plus I would be able to ask for a pass to be given to my student in the event I would need to pick up him/her immediately.
Most kids in our system from middle school up carry cell phones. If they are caught the phone is taken away for the day and the parent or any adult has to go to the office to get it back at end of day. No big deal.
I teach JHS in Japan ...While I can't speak for all junior highs , I can tell you that NOBODY takes a cell phone to our school . 99% of the kids don't even own one . They are given one upon graduation in most cases , though . My daughter just became a university student in Kyoto and she finally got a cell phone . ;)
That's cause your kids don't go to American schools.lol
The schools can't keep them safe and will not answer a phone.
Did you know the cell phone policy of the school befor you called?
Yeah, the kids do that all day long with their friends and don't get caught that way. I've used it many times to communicate with my kids, it's a lifesaver at times.
No, I was mistaken in that I presume that there was logical people working there that would allow cell phone use during their lunch hour. He only got the cell phone for Christmas and we had no previous need to contact him during school hours.
I worked at a private school where he attended. At the private school, students were not allowed to have their cell phone out during class, but were permitted to use them during breaks and lunch.

Very reasonable methinks ...
Yes. We're allowed to use it outside of any building, after hours, before, during lunch, or the passing periods.
Our kids are not allowed to have cell phones at school period!
My son has a phone for emergency purposes and anytime he tries to take it to school it gets confiscated and either my husband or I have to pick it up.
He has had to borrow others phones to call me if something comes up, like his bus being late, etc.
The school system said that kids were text messaging and using camera phones to copy tests so they did away with them.
