The Twilight’s Last Gleaming? -- Why Did America Really Invade Iraq

Why Did America Really Invade Iraq?

The stated reason by the Bush Administration for invading Iraq was that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction and was prepared to use them against Israel, Iraq’s other neighbors, and possibly America.1 There are some that believe that the real reasons why America invaded Iraq are found in events and policy development that happened before the invasion but which were never revealed to the American public. There are two such reasons suggested:

First, to ensure that the dollar remained unchallenged as the world’s reserve currency, so that the U.S. could continue to fund its massive deficits and sustain its economy and its political and military supremacy. What does the dollar have to do with all of this and how does the invasion of Iraq fit into the picture?

It seems that Saddam sealed his fate in September 2000, when he demanded that all Iraqi oil sold under the U.N. Oil for Food Program must be paid for in euros rather than dollars. Saddam’s actions were a direct threat to the supremacy of the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency and the ability of the U.S. to continue to fund its massive deficits. This is born out by the fact that two months after the U.S. invaded Iraq, the Oil for Food program was terminated and all of the Iraqi euro accounts were switched back to dollars. No longer did the world have the option of buying oil from Iraq and paying for it in euros.

Forcing the Iraqi accounts to convert from euros to dollars cost the Iraqis a great deal of money because the dollar had fallen in value relative to the Euro by some 13%! Not surprisingly, ...

I think that Missler is over-committed about one interpretation of the nature of the so-called one-world government, and because of this, is possibly wrong about a one-world currency. (A one-world economy doesn't require a single currency.)

The one-world dictatorship isn't necessarily so, since the "kings of the east" do exist and do appear to have separate control of their armies.

The more I watch "24" the more I think you are right.

Just to be honest with you, if the end came today, I would be surprised. So would everyone else....including those who say it could happen at any time.

Today would be a good day, then, since "no man knows the day or the hour."

I have no doubt that the bible is futuristic and not "completed." However, I do think that we need to do some serious rethinking of what we mean by that. I have trouble tolerating the notion, for example, that Philadelphia was the 18th & 19th century missionary church. Such overlays are so arbitrary.

Have any of the 24 episodes been referenced in any of your Pastor's sermons?

Yes, in fact we are thinking of having a Saturday "24" marathon, pizza party with sitters for the kids. Sort of a modern day "messiah" Jack Bauer parable.

You might be interested in this. I'm teaching two courses in Revelation and using the movies "1984", "Farenheit 451", "Clockwork Orange", "Soylent Green" and "Escape From New York" to demonstrate how the world looks at itself without a restraining person (The Holy Spirit or the Church) during the tribulation period. They wanted one of the "Left Behind" movies but I told them it had too much hope and not a really good plot line. They needed to experience what the world without hope would be like as the world sees it.

I am a former tank crewman and commander [tankist in Israeli MilSpeak] and have been to Megiddo; the kibbutz there makes swell jewelry that makes great take-home presents, as well as serving as a location for an Israeli prison for enemy terrorists. I do not look forward to participating in a tank fight there, but the locale is ideal tankfighting terrain, with useful positions for artillery support nearby. And I will not be at all surprised if such events take place in my lifetime or if I am involved.

They might find the following account of *a the world without hope* [or nearly so] to be of interest, though it's not a motion picture. Yet.

It could serve as a major reason to take out a leftist government in Mexico just as easily.

Are you following the news? We're assimilating Mexico as we speak...

Whether we absorb Méjico's population and then annex their former homeland territory or whether they remain a seperate nation, drift into more and more leftist/socialist governments and become a source of increasingly deadly terrorist attacks on American citizens on US territory, we need at least the immediate capability to eliminate the threat to peace in this hemisphere coming from Méjico City, D.F.

That's around 22 million folks, circa the 2000 census figures, about twice the number of those who've infiltrated the USA so far.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have time to do it justice right now but will study it later.
