It is the pinnacle of selfishness. They have no personal charity, like most conservatives do, so they try to force, by rule of law, others to take care of the needy. I think the guilt comes from the desire to help the needy, but the lack of moral strength enough to personally sacrifice to do it.

What are characteristics of liberal guilt? attacking anything that has to do with American culture. Thinking anything white or American was accomplished exploiting or killing others.
Where does it stem from? Self loathing(Do not end sentence with a preposition)
What are its causes? If you mean causes, see above. if you mean effects, you have to look at people trying to destroy the fabric of our nation.
Does liberal guilt necessarily follow party affiliations (Can republicans catch it too?) It can cross party lines. Most often not. There are stupid people everywhere.
What sectors of our society are most prone to be infected with liberal guilt? Quarter millionaires.
What can i do to avoid liberal guilt? Pull head out of rectum. See the truth and know some are trying to destroy our culture. You cannot change the past by leveling the playing field.
Do certain publications push liberal guilt on their readers? NYT, Newsweek, any Tribune press, CNN
Can you cite instances of this? Denouncing Columbus day, our founders, criticizing America and leaving out the British, Spanish, French et al for imperialism. Calling violations of the equal protection clause Affirmative action.
As someone infected with liberal guilt, what would i do? Grow up and start reading the truth. Be skeptical of the motives of those who try to guilt you.

Liberals don't feel guilt...they don't have a conscience.

I think liberal guilt is a deep seeded insecurity that shows up in the feel good politics, mostly of liberal/progressive causes. This insecurity leads to their morally relative views with no right or wrong and no real truth. Their guilt is for being alive and being better off than "most people" they see, mostly on TV. The media has fed this guilt over the last 30 years by broadcasting primarily stories about the victims of our society (capitalism). It is always, somebody should do something about that and that somebody is the government. Liberals feel the need to be taken care of because of their uncertainty. They also feel that anybody that is certain about something is closed minded, racist or a bigot. Good luck with your paper

None of that matters. You're gonna get an "F".

would you try and unpack that for me? essentially what I'm taking from your post is that you feel liberal guilt is the need to legislate morality? (forced community service, etcetera?)
I've been thinking about it and i feel sort of like it may have a lot to do with topic selection by uncreative people for creative projects, in other words, that people may simply choose topics that are depressing or intentionally scary to appear "deep".
Would you say that a propensity for liberal guilt ties into a personal theory about the law? Is it liberal guilt when i act on my own guilt and do not feel the need to legislate it?

Let's talk religion for a moment.
If charity is the pure love of Christ, then sacrificing something personally to help the needy is the best way to feel his spirit. In my opinion, the need to help the needy that we all naturally have is not really that at all, but a need to feel Gods love.
Therefore, a Liberal who "cheats" by making others sacrifice to help the needy, cancels out the real need, which is the need to feel Gods love and feels guilty instead deep down, because they have committed a sin. This is why it never ends for them...And there works can lead all the way down to Pol Pot communism.
This is my opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it. If you can repackage this into a paper acceptable for a college professor, I'd like to see it.
