NEW YORK (Reuters) - Jeff Kent of the Los Angeles Dodgers has signed a contract extension for 2007 with an option for 2008, the team said on Wednesday.

The All-Star second baseman, who will earn $9.4 million this year, is to receive a base salary of $9 million in 2007 with a $2 million signing bonus.

Kent will also receive additional bonuses that could reach $750,000.

A five-times All-Star, the 38-year-old Kent said he was "99.9 percent" sure this would be his final contract.

"It's safe to say I'm proud to retire as a Dodger," he told the team's Web site.

Big paycheck. Will he live up to it? I kinda doubt it.

JK, a superb if aloof second baseman. Many fond memories of him watching play for all too brief a time with the 'Stros. Long live Kent, the Mustachioed Mormon.
