Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
An astonishing turn of events in an Alexandria, VA, United States Court courtroom yesterday. Less than a month after committing a prosecutorial faux pas that could have cost the trial, the defendent appears to have rescued the Federal lawyers from the jaws of defeat.
In open court, under cross-examination, prosecutors got Zacarias Moussaoui to tesitify that:
** He and Richard Reid (notorious as the Shoe Bomber and the reason all travelers now take off their shoes before boarding planes) were supposed to have hijacked a fifth airplane on September 11, 2001.
** That he was supposed to fly that plane into the White House that day.
** That he knew the World Trade Center attack was coming.
** That he lied to investigators when detained in August 2001 because he wanted the Trade Center attack to happen.
** That he lied to conceal the fact he was a member of Al Qa'eda.
** That he bought a radio specifically to hear the attacks unfold.
** He was grateful to be a member of Al Qa'eda.
** He was grateful to have been, which fortunately didn't come to pass, the fifth pilot.
For Moussaoui to receive the death penalty (he has already pled guilty), prosecutors must prove that his lies were directly responsible for at least one death on September 11, 2001.

The school system got a grant from a local foundation and had two composers who had conducted workshops with the children, and one had composed an original piece just for this event. The recorders (4th grade) performed, as well as the 5th grade string orchestra and bands.
I was SO impressed. The quality of the singing was excellent, and they had choreographed hand gestures and clapping with some of the music. The orchestra had excellent tone, and the band was really good, too. Our grandson (3rd grade) performed in a rhythm band that was very complicated and really neat.
But the absolute showstopper was the choir composed of kids from the developmentally disabled school. They sang 3 songs with choreography and solos. These were Downe's syndrome kids, autistic kids, and assorted other difficulties. Two of the songs were "The Best That I Can Be" and "You Raise Me Up." I sat there listening with tears, and they got a standing ovation. Absolutely the most excellent bit of music education I have ever seen.
A very inspiring night, and we are sure glad we went.
Thursday night I am going to a concert being performed by 4 area high schools; (I have been playing rehearsals for one of the schools.) They have an all-day workshop on Thursday and will rehearse all together for the first time that morning (with a guest conductor); after a day of rehearsals & sectionals they will be performing Carmina Burana and several short Mozart pieces that evening. There will also be several middle school choirs performing other music.
Performing Carmina is no small feat; I hope these kids realize how lucky they are to be part of this.
Oh, there was one thing I forgot. One of the rhythm band pieces was to.....hang on....you know it's coming....."Its a Small World!" Hahahaha!

"Your Raise Me Up"..........wow.............I can't even get thorugh Josh Groban's version without crying.............. hearing those sweet little voices singing it.......must have really been something.
It was just amazing. The guest composer said that she had conducted seminars and workshops all over the US and had never seen anything like this school system's program.
It sure made me glad our grandchildren are in that system.
And those developmentally disabled kids were just amazing. I cannot imagine the work that teacher had to get them to do solos in front of thousands of people and they really sounded GOOD. It wa just fantastic.

That's wonderful. They must have very good support for the arts in that district; from the parents, the administration, everybody.

That sounds wonderful. I cannot imagine children in that age bracket stanting still for any length of time.

Sharon Stone hasn't aged well. I saw her on Leno (Letterman?) the other night. Long straight blonde hair, and she's had work done on her face. She's too old for the long straight blonde hair.
