I bred and raised dobermans for many years. None of the people who bought my dogs were irresponsible. I checked them out with background checks and spoke to their veterinarians before selling to them.

This is the procedure the responsible breeders I know follow.
In addition they have written contracts with the buyers stipulating the buyers responsibilities and allowing for reclaiming the dog in case of breach.

When we see her loose again animal control will be called.

I keep animal control on my cell phone speed dial.
I drive for a living and I report any dog I see running loose/unleashed.
A dog not controlled is an 'accident' waiting to happen.

I always sold my dogs with a contact and if needed be I would have taken a dog back. Had it been a biter I would have put the dog down. When a child is bitten my vet suggests the dog be put down no matter the breed or size. I have seen plenty of little mean dogs . Its a shame how some people buy a dog not understanding the breed or the needs of the dog. They just go into a pet shop and see a cute little puppy and impulse buy. The cute little pup grows into a huge dog that they cant control and they dump it or let it run wild. I am all for people having the dog they want if they understand the breed and fully take responsbility for the dog. I have worked in a animal shelter and seen how people abandon animals when they no longer want them and it makes my blood boil. Your idea of keeping animal control on speed dial is great. I could try and grab this pitbull whose name is lily but I have grown older and wiser and I am not taking the chance of getting bit. I dont want to fight with my neighbor but my whole neighborhood is up in arms over her getting loose. If it comes down to lily going after any of our leashed dogs or children she wil be dealt with no matter how we have to do it. the owner has been warned . I think lily needs a new owner but after working in a shelter I saw many people wouldnt take dobies, rotties or pits because they were scared to adopt them. I wouldnt take one myself that I didnt raise from a pup. I now raise Shih Tzus. I find them to be great with kids and good pets.
