Irina Slutskaya will compete in next world championship
Irina Slutskaya decided to take part in figure skating world championship, which will take place in Calgary (Canada) on March 20-26. I will certainly go to world championship, stated Slutskaya, who has not been earlier included in the national team.
At the same time, Slutskaya does not still know, whether she will compete in the next Olympic Games. I do not plan so far ahead, stressed the figure skater, informs UTRO.ru web site.
For President of Russian Figure Skating Federation Valentin Piseev, Slutskayas decision was surprise. I am surprised and pleased, confessed Piseev. According to him, nobody from Olympic champions and medal winners planned to compete in the world championship.
Good for her keeping at it.
Indeed!
I wish her well and wish she would retire sooner rather than later.
Not to mention a rare blood disease she is on constant medication for.
Yes, she has certainly earned her accolades and skating with a professional touring skating company might be fun for her.
i like very much the way she's skating.Very charming style. She was very close for a gold in Salt Lake, but the medal was stolen,in fact.Anyway she proved that she is better... I've heard about troubles she had in the past. What about her last name in russian it pronounce like SlOOtskaya.
I can't stand Svetlana. Always hated watching her. I'm happy she's finally given up on getting that elusive team gold for Russia.
At first, I didn't care much for Svetlana either. Not at all. But I got to like her. I think there was a lot of pressure on her during the last summer Olympics, and she was good but not their best. And that growth spurt didn't help. I will miss seeing her in the next games.
the only SLUT-SKATER now is Tanya Harding.
LOL! But 'now'? I don't think Irina was ever like Tanya! ;-)
"...Anybody who can do that routinely amazes me...."
It IS amazing. That move was first done by Denise Beilman of Switzerland. In fact, that spin is named after her. She was a great skater.
Yes, I've heard of the Beilman (I'm old enough to remember watching Beilman do it!) I was most impressed with the fact that Beilman competed professionally into her 40s. She was in astonishing fitness at that age (washboard abs).
I think Slutskaya and Cohen are the only skaters that do a Beilman in a spiral.
