Is the small strange hammer perhaps supposed to be a window breaker? My dad got me a little escape hammer for my truck that's supposed to break out a window if I find myself underwater... and can find the hammer faster than rolling down the window.

I have no idea. Glass-breakers usually have a small point on them. I have a wide assortment of gadgets (of course) to break car windows. Personally, I have a Camillus BK3 tucked between the driver's seat and the console. I can cut, saw, pry, and smash with this:

LOL! I got something like that too. It's a spring-loaded little dealie called an automatic center punch and it looks like this...

I don't know why I bought it. I'm like you, I'm not real sure that if I'm under water in the dark that I'm gonna be able to find it. But electric windows don't work real well in water so I'm sure I'd be real motivated to be looking. ;o)
