That's a good idea with the crutch since when he's at a client's barn it's very unlikely that they're going to have their own stancheon. A good set of adjustable cross ties might accomplish the same thing too.

Sometimes I'll use this one, if I'm riding with english tack, but Tuffy doesn't respect it. He lugs on it and won't back up when I ask.
