The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Hey I just got home and mine are here. They came while I was gone and mack opened them and put them in water for me:) He said they didn't seem dried out at all. Should I plant them today or let them soak till tomorrow?

WOO HOO! I don't think it hurts for them to soak, but if you're eager, just make sure they get a lot of water when you plant 'em, and keep them kinda moist till they're good and established. :~D

Make says they got here about 1:00, so they've been soaking for 3 hours. I think I'm going to go ahead and plant them. I've got that root stimulator stuff. I think that will be good for them.

The root stimulator is probably a real good idea. I really do think they're pretty hardy but the better the treatment, the better they'll do.

I think on yours one has a lot more dirt and roots in it than the other... It'll help to remember if it hurt anything to pare the one down to bare roots like I did when I cut the first one. The second one I split, I left alone more.

Do you think I should put them in the same hole together, or two seperate holes?

Yeah, one of them the top part, has come almost all loose from the root ball.
the other is still all together.

They're seperate plants... But you can group them pretty close together to make them look fuller when they're big. Maybe dig one long hole and put them at each end.

Bury them deep so the dirt covers them nearly completely and it wouldn't hurt to sprinkle even more leaves or mulch on top. The shoots should still be underground at this point. They push up though a couple inches of fallen leaves and debris every year at home. :~D

Ok, I went back and made them deeper, and then went and dug to the bottom of old leaves and got out the old rotting stuff and put that over them.

Here's my hole with the soaker hose running right thru it.

Oh, sorry:).

Well, if she hasn't had it by a week from tomorrow she is scheduled to be induced. But the doctor thinks she'll go before then. I just got home from taking her home, and she was having light contractions, so heck it might be tonight.

She is dialated to 3 and 90% effaced. and the babies head is right there:)

LOL, I know what you mean. She was really looking tired today:(. We walked around the mall for awhile, I was hoping that might get things started. I wish I could talk her into castor oil:).

One good thing, the doctor said from the way things are going, (she can't guarantee it, of course), but she doesn't think it will be a long drawed out labor. She's already gotten alot of the early labor work done, being where she's at. I'm crossing my fingers:\
