The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Gotta be careful with that Red Cell . . . fed some to my mare and she started feeling TOO good . . . bucking and carrying on in the ring. And she put on probably about 50 pounds. Looked good!

"I love how Bay's ears always go straight out over the bridges... "

He's listening for trolls, same as I would be doing :)

Tuffy took first place today in halter, class of eight. No pictures, I wasn't there :)

Bob has been pretty ill lately so I pled too tired to go and stayed home and took the weed eater to the yard. Had a feeling he'd win, the big guy (Prez) didn't go today, just Tuffy. Tuffy can't win if Prez is in the same class.

That's my question. I have a hard time envisioning any of my horses going across that bridge willingly.

Thank you. We have yet another appointment with another doctor tomorrow, perhaps he'll have some answers.

I've seen green horses not want to go 'first' over them, but they'll usually follow another horse over, or riders sometimes get off and lead them over the first time. After they've done it once, they usually don't have further trouble :~)

I don't remember Bay's first time, it's so long ago, but Cyn went right over when we got her. Bay sometimes gets a little buggie and coiled because they're loud, and sometimes walks faster to get off them at the end. :~)

Prayers for Bob, Duchess, that he's feeling better soon. And congrats on Tuffy, he's growing up pretty, and I think will beat Prez one day :~)

~yawn~ I just woke up. The couch put me to sleep for a good couple hours, guess the ride wore me out.

well, most of the horses i've had had trouble crossing the bridge below myy house. it', cement so doesn't make that much noise, and is wide enough for two cars.

Well it'll be fun for you to see them in person... I know Kat's been over them, so she'll be OK, but maybe we'll have to lead Becky across the first time :~D

Those bridges aren't scary to me, as a rider. A horse would have to try pretty hard to fall off of them, the rails are high :~D - In fact, it's the rails on them that make me more nervous than the bridge, because that top cap on the railing looks like it could cut your leg right off if they jammed you up against the sides. But don't worry, I've never seen that actually happen. :~)

The little ones without railings look scarier to me, because they could step off of them. True, it's not very far down, but who knows what's down there.

Great pictures of your ride! You were talking about how you liked the way Bay's ears went out to the sides while crossing the bridges, but I got a real chuckle about how they were pointed so tightly forward when you came out into the new logged clearing. It's like he was thinking "SHAZAM! Where the heck are we?!" LOL!

That smaller bridge would worry me for the same reason.

So sorry to hear that Bob's been ill. I'll keep him in my prayers that the doctor will be able to find out what the problem is and take care of it.
